Newcastle Reported After New International Center-Back Target

It’s starting to look like a typical transfer window for Newcastle United, with the club linked with multiple different transfer targets.

It may even be worse than usual (or better depending on what view you take), because we are now led by a world-class manager with an excellent name in world football – Mr. Rafa Benitez.

And Rafa could well surprise us with some of his summer signings, as he did last year when some of the announcements of our signings came right of the blue and were not even thought to be Newcastle targets.

24 year-old Inter Milan center-back Jeison Murillo

The news comes from Italy and Gazzetta dello Sport who are reporting that Rafa Benitez is interested in signing Inter Milan center-back Jeison Murillo.

Murillo was signed in February 2015 from Spanish club Granada for a total transfer fee of €10M (£8.6M).

Inter have had had another poor season in Serie A for them, finishing in 7th place on 59 points and a number of players are expected to leave the club this summer, with 24 year-old 25 times capped Colombian International Murillo being one of them.

Newcastle are reported to be one of four clubs interested in the 6ft tall defender and the others are said to be Valencia, Borussia Dortmund and Monaco

The disadvantage we face this season is that we cannot offer any new players European football, but Rafa is very persuasive and he can talk about Newcastle’s coming resurgence in the world of European (and world) football.

The 24-year-old made 34 appearances for Inter Milan last season with one goal and one assist and he has played a total of 69 times for Inter with 3 goals and 2 assists.

Murillo made his debut for Colombia in October of 2014, playing in a 3–0 friendly win over El Salvador.

What do you think?

Another one for LewSpi’s ever growing list. Looks OK but I suspect this is made up paper talk.

Apart from the top European clubs who are pretty much guaranteed ( it’s planned that way ) to reach the final stages of the Champions League then it’s not the defining reason for signing for a club , just a reason pouted by Agents to drive up prices and improve their own greasy commission payments.
Qualifying games might be a lottery – ask Arsenal and you end up in the Europa League. Get through that and you might get a couple of games against modest opposition and if you don’t go through then that’s it. Ask Sissoko if you need any references on that.

In contrast join the Premiership with NUFC and play for an amazing club and manager in front of 52,000 fans against the likes of Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool and the club formerly known as Arsenal all of who have Champions League pedigree.

    SJP….sign here

Looks like SDJ is staying for further evaluation by Rafa.

I reckon our next signing will be Cairney but after that it’s anybody’s guess.

SDJ is a puzzle, obviously a very talented player but I can’t see him lasting 90mins very often. Do we keep him as an impact sub or cash in and add replace with a fitter player

I mentioned another Gomez a few days ago, Mario. Getting on a bit but still banging them in in Germany.

Seems pretty good from the Youtube – quick and good positional sense. Would be what looks like a good quality signing (lots of international caps for a good team and consistent player at Inter). Probably paper talk, but would be happy seeing him at NUFC next season.

We have four centre backs..unless one is leaving we do not need a replacement..rather we invest the cash in another position

I don’t want a 6 foot CB. He wouldn’t be able to cut it in the prem, not big enough. We need a complete unit at the back, ideally 2 for competition for Clark. Lascelles isn’t good enough for the Prem, he makes far too many mistakes. I like the Serb lad from Celtic and either Maguire or Shawcross.
