The ChronicleLive are reporting that Newcastle are being linked with Clinton Mata in the Belgium press today – and the 6 times capped Angola International seems an unlikely player for Newcastle to be pursuing – always assuming the report is accurate.
He was born in Verviers in Belgium and plays for RSC Charleroi in the Belgium Jupiler Pro League and he is a midfielder who stands 6ft tall.
Rafa must have been alerted to this player by one of his many contacts on the continent.
Clinton Mata – Newcastle midfield target?
The player is also said to be interesting Belgium Champions Anderlecht, Nice, Marseille and Feyenoord and the have been alerted by his excellent club form this season.
Clinton signed for Charleroi in 2014 from Eupen who were in the Belgium second division until they were promoted to the Belgium first division last summer.
In July 2014 he was asked to switch his international allegiance from his country of birth Belgium to Angola and he made his debut for Angola later that year.
Mata qualifies because he is is part Angolan and part Congolese descent.
Information on the player is fairly difficult to come by but he’s played 86 times for with one goal and four assists for Charleroi and played 71 times for Eupen with two goals and five assists.
If any readers know more about this player leave the information in the comments – thanks.
He looks good in black and white stripes.
🙂
Comments welcome.

Comment #2Ed – hope the treatments are tolerable and that progress is being made.
Atsu – welcome to the lad, he’s earned it and will I feel have some memorable games with us. With better ref protection in the Premiership he’ll flourish.

I wasnt far off with his name then, he was the one I was looking forward to seeing tbh maybe swap deal for de Jong? Haha
Traore is Chelseas isnt he? Or is that another one? Speaking off on loan winger types I saw Celtic complete their invincible season against wor Cathro and that lad on loan from Man City was worth looking at

I have only seen him in that one game but he looked very much above the level he was playing at (not hard I know but hes only 20, fast as hell and a bag of tricks). I will be chuffed with either Iheanacho or Batshuayi either would be incredible but I doubt we will get either

Meant to be quite likely to come in according to reports but we will see, meant to be after more than 1 striker so him coming in wouldnt rule out another
