This Player Could Be Surprise Departure From Newcastle This Summer

One of the really interesting things that will happen when pre-season begins on July 3rd is how the goalkeeper situation will shape up at Newcastle.

We have former number one Tim Krul returning from his loan spells at Ajax and AZ Alkmaar and Karl Darlow had an excellent season for us last season.

Rob Elliot is now fully fit from his ACL injury – as is Tim Krul.

Matz Sels – could be sold this summer

The odd man out seems to be Matz Sels who Rafa brought in from Gent for a fee of around £6M.

Matz did not have a good time of it at Newcastle, when he was number one until October but was then replaced by Karl Darlow after the 1-1 draw at Aston Villa when we conceded the equalizer in the last minute of that game.

Young Freddie Woodman is a star in the making on Tyneside, but he will be loaned out next season, probably to a Championship club to get first team experience elsewhere during his development.

There’s new today in Belgium that Anderlecht are interested in Matz and that may be a good club for him to join in his country of birth.

It seems that Anderlecht want him on a season long loan and the Belgium Champions want somebody to replace first choice goalkeeper Frank Boeckx who will be out for four months after having a back operation.

It appears that Matz is in demand and there were offers for the player in January, so we wouldn’t be surprised if a number of offers to buy him come in over the summer.

Matz wants to stay at Newcastle and he has said earlier in the season that he would like to go on loan to a Championship club to get more experience of the physical play in England.

But since Matz finished 3rd choice to Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot it could be better for him to return to Belgium and get first team games there.

We also think Rafa wants to bring in another goalkeeper this summer.

The Chronicle are reporting that Sels’ advisers have been contacted by at least three other clubs in Europe who are keen to sign him.

Matz will also be very keen to get first team football so he will be one of the three goalkeepers chosen by Belgium for the 2018 World Cup in Russia; currently he has been third choice behind Thibaut Courtois and Simon Mignolet.

What do you think?
