Potential New Developments In Tom Cairney Transfer

One of our top targets this summer is Fulham’s impressive 26 year-old play-maker Tom Cairney.

Newcastle are hoping to get the player for a fee of £12M even though Fulham are said to want a mammoth £20M for their star player.

However, with Sam Allardyce surprisingly resigning from Crystal Palace  earlier this week Palace are looking  for another manager.

Slavisa Jokanovic and Rafa Benitez meet last season

Former Hull manager Marco Silva and Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic are said to targets.

We’ve been impressed with Slavisa Jokanovic ever since he took over Watford in October 2014 and was their fourth manager in five weeks, and amazingly he got them promoted to the Premier League the following May.

The Serbian couldn’t agree terms with Watford for the following season and he eventually ended up as the Fulham manager for last season.

Jokanovic took Fulham to the play-offs and during the season they somehow managed to do the double over the eventual Champions – a certain massive club – Newcastle United.

Slavisa Jokanovic could be an excellent choice for Palace or even Watford who again have fired their manager and want to sign (yet) another manager.

The Sun is reporting that Palace chairman Steve Parish would have to pay as much £3M in compensation to get Jokanovic out of his Fulham contract.

If he leaves Fulham it  could impact the sale of Tom Cairney to Newcastle.

Tom Cairney – Fulham midfielder

The positive way to look at it is that Cairney will become unsettled in London and since he’s already said to be (very) keen to join the Rafa revolution the move could go through quickly.

The other way to look at it is that Jokanovic will want his best player at Fulham – Cairney – to join him at Crystal Palace.

But Newcastle pay their transfer fees up front in cool cash which Palace would unlikely  be able to match and surely Newcastle and Rafa Benitez are a bigger attraction than playing for Palace?

In reality we don’t think if the Fulham manager moves from Fulham it will make much of a difference.

We could be wrong, but we expect Tom to become a Newcastle United player within the next week or two and maybe Rafa and Lee Charnley will now move even more quickly to close the deal.

What do you think?

comments welcome.

All the best to Anita and the Gouff where ever there playing career will take them. I would imagine that these 2 lads will be 2 of many casualties this summer.
Why is it that every transfer window we get linked to so many midfielders !!

Nolito would have been ideal. Yet another striker being used as a winger. Insanity.

    As for what we need.

    1. Our defence would get eaten alive at this level. Clark is the closest we have to ready. The rest have a mountain to climb.
    2. Our midfield needs pace and we need a top quality dm along with creative competition. A top winger required too.
    3. Apart from gayle we need 2 strikers minimum.
4 I fully expect 10 to 12 out goings in this window.
    5. Rafa is someone who covers every base so why on earth would we expect him to allow positions to be covered by players who have not cut it before. I knew anita and gouffran would be away for that reason. It proves my theory right. Rafa is going to be cut throat and ruthless.
    6. I expect a top keeper to arrive. At least 1 full back, posibly 2 centre backs.
A top winger, an attacking midfielder and dm.
Plus 2 strikers….yep pretty much a new team. Rafa will want to compete not just survive. No its not being daft it’s his style. He will leave no stone unturned.
Ritchie, shelvey, gayle, clark, hayden will all play a part but he will bring in top quality. I see atsu as cover not a starter.

Ah right. Carvalho would be one hell of a signing mate. I said this morning, how has he not been snapped up by one of the big clubs.

As far as outfield players go we have more than Ritchie, Shelvey, Gayle, Clark and Hayden. Lascelles Perez, Mbemba, Mitrovic, Yedlin, Colback, Dummett, Aarons and Atsu are all of similar quality who I think will also figure. But I do agree we need a genuine injection of quality to replace outgoings including most likely and notably Anita, Gouffran, Haidarra, Murph (although I’d personally cash in on Gayle) Diame, Lazaar, Gamez, Sammi and Hanley and a couple others, although some will survive. But that’s still up to nine upgrades, which even then is starting to get a bit fanciful. We’ll still have a substantial number of last seasons squad in the ranks next term, but it should still do well if we can add well.

goufrann and anita needed to leave..they were on massive wages.. with them gone we can afford a 100k/week player who will contribute more than those 2 combined…hopefully:)..
if we can get rid off rivi, saviet, sels, krul, grant, lazaar, diame, colback, murphy, de jong..thats another 350k/week.. – out of those only colback and diame played + few appearances from murphy..all easily replaceable..

Been looking at rafas transfer dealings while at liverpool.

Most players he bought where sold on for profit.

If he can pull of the same at sjp we should expect to see a high turnover and for the squad also to improve each window.

Our squad will be totally different within 3 premiership windows.

I cant wait to see what he does for us.

Manager merry-go-round time again with Allardyce, Monk, Moyes and Silva all resigning and Materazzi leaving Watford, it’s always fun to see where the cards fall during pre-season. And the same with player transfers. I know there’s a few on here complaining about being linked with a bunch of different players, but I think it’s fun. Football is a bit like a soap opera and it’s interesting seeing all the comings and goings during the transfer window. There’s always a big surprise or two every year. I bet Rafa has one or two up his sleeve 🙂

Siem our best player? Scary thought.

Shearer, you are talking of a whole new team. Won’t happen I think. At least not in one window.

@6, you mention mcarthy, Townsend and cairney, and then we’re good. Must disagree. I don’t quite get the McCarthy 20 m. tag. The guy is a sub in his team, and that team ain’t Chelsea. Anyway, we need a seriously good CF, first and foremost.

Mister tuff, you elicited a response from mighty Ed. Congratulations and you have my envy.

If de Jong has got over his injury problems, and his record of playing last season will show that, he could be a useful player for us in the premiership.
    He’s a class act.

So Paul Dummet has spit his dummy out and told Coleman he ain’t playing for Wales anymore.

He was at the training camps but not picked for the squad, he has now decided enough.
