The London Evening Standard today are reporting that Newcastle are keen on signing winger Dion Pereira of Watford.
The 18 year-old is left-footed winger and was a regular last season in Watford’s U23 side even though he is only 18 so this is a type of player that Newcastle are interested in bringing to Newcastle.
Hopefully we can op young players into potential first team players for Newcastle by bringing them through the ranks.
Dion joined Watford when he was only 9 years old and came through the Watford Youth Academy.
18 year-old Dion Pereira – already playing for Watford U23 team regularly
He’s a regular in the Hornets’ Under-23 side already at just 18-years-old and the youngster made his first-team debut away to Leicester City in May 2017.
Dion Pereira was earlier this week voted as Watford’s Young Player of the Season award and he played twice for the first team this season with his second game being the 3-0 away loss at Manchester City in the 5-0 walloping in the last game of the season.
Both West Ham and Brighton are also interested in the player and if a club signs him Watford would be due some compensation because he came through the Watford Youth Academy and he is still under 24.
Dion has been offered his first pro contract by Watford but he’s signed nothing yet and may be interested to see what other clubs like Newcastle for example would be willing to offer him.
One thing Rafa Benitez seems determined to do at Newcastle is to vastly improve the class and quality of youngsters that are brought into the club.
The youngsters brought in have tobe good enough to come through the ranks and finally (hopefully) end up as first teamers at Newcastle – and that has not been the case over the last 10 years.
It is a vital cog in the wheel by which Newcastle can produce some very good players at a reasonably low cost to the club.
What do you think?

Comment #1I reckon these are the types of players we should be targeting, maybe even younger versions, obviously talented and hungry enough to push themselves into the first team at 18 in the biggest league.
Yes, him and a few more please, not just from England either, Spain, Italy, Belgium, South America outer Mongolia, anywhere that has footballers.
Bring them here to learn under Rafa the Gaffa
