Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle has been voted the PFA Fans’ Championship Player of the Season.
The Magpies’ new number nine scored a sensational 23 goals in only 34 first team appearances last season which included only 27 starts and but for the hamstring injury he picked up in January he could have easily surpassed 30 goals for the season.
He led the league in taking only 93 minutes to score each goal, much less than any other leading goalscorer in the Championship last season.
Let’s hear it for Dwight Gayle!
Dwight won quite easily with 14,705 votes and beat out Leeds striker Chris Wood with 9,707 votes and Brighton winger Anthony Knockaert with 9,214 votes.
Striker Tammy Abraham of Bristol City, central midfielder Aaron Mooy of Huddersfield and 35 year-old French striker Yann Kermorgant of Reading were also among those who were in the voting.
Newcastle are after 20 year-old Tammy Abraham on loan next season from Chelsea, but at least at the moment it looks like Brighton are in the lead to sign him.
It’s Dwight’s second award for last season since he was included in the Championship Team of the Season along with Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles and midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
Congratulations to Dwight who was simply a terrific signing by Rafa Benitez and this lad can score goals.
He could well be a huge surprise in the Premier league next season with the number of goals he can score, but he needs to stay fit.
Maybe he will have some strengthening exercises on his hamstrings over the summer?
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Was excited with Gayle before he arrived and his tally talks for itself.
Now I’m a tad concerned. Injuries and bullies might reduce his effectiveness. Mitro will come good but is still raw. I’ve put a top CF – and Rafa has too 🙂 on top of my shopping list.

Comment #3Just read a bit on negredo. Powerful statements and puts lots of responsibility on the players. 31 years old.
Your welcome, Rafa 😉

Comment #4I guess it’s just me and you and Ed here, Rafa.
Anyway, since I’m helping, here’s your list. Negredo, the two Toms and Andros.
Set, top 8.

Comment #5It is quiet on here ,its cos the suns out, 26 degrees in my garden and there were bikini wearers on all the local beaches, this is probably the warmest day wev had for a couple of year, its on a bank holiday weekend and its looking good.
Unfortunately i cant partake, i have surgical stockings on after my new hip op and dont like being seen in public with them so will be mooching about ,its bad enough walking around locally but i definitely wont be going close to beaches and public areas, not in shorts and surgical stockings………not a good look
