These Are The Players Rafa Will Likely Try To Sign In Next Few Weeks

It’s obvious that Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley have been very busy in the transfer market behind the scenes over the last few weeks, since the season ended  on May 7th and it seems that bids are going in for some of our various targets.

But there also seems a lot of them (that’s a surprise) so exactly who will be arriving on Tyneside is difficult to even guess.

Remember that Rafa shocked us a few times last summer by bringing in some players right out of the blue and it wouldn’t surprising if he did the same thing again this summer.

Burnley striker Andre Gray could be moving to Newcastle

So we’ve looked at the various targets linked via recent reports that bids have been lodged and here seems to be the most likely signings with the expectation highest for those near the top of the list.

But of course we could also be way off, which has happened once or twice before – as we recall.

Anyway here’s our best shot at the most likely players to be signed shortly and we’ve listed 13 players (as a risk reduction ploy) and specifically left some off the targets off the list altogether – such as Wes Morgan and Ryan Shawcross.

  1. Andros Townsend – winger – Crystal Palace
  2. Andre Gray – Burnley – striker – Burnley
  3. Nicholas Pepe – winger – Angers
  4. Gabriel Pires – 23 – midfielder – Leganes
  5. Tom Cairney – 26 – central midfielder – Fulham
  6. Yann Karamoh – 18 – striker – Caen
  7. Jozo Simunovic – 20 – center-back – Celtic
  8. Harry Maguire – 26 – center-back – Hull
  9. James McCarthy – 26 – central midfielder – Everton
  10. Tammy Abraham – Chelsea – 19 – loan
  11. Kelechi Iheanacho – Chelsea – 20 – striker – possible loan
  12. Michy Batshuayi – Chelsea – 23 – loan
  13. William Carvalho – Sporting Lisbon – 25 – defensive midfielder

It looks like Rafa wants as many as 8 good players brought into the club this summer and he wants them just as quickly as possible and preferably before pre-season training starts on July 3rd.

If Newcastle were to sign eight players in the next few weeks – what would your choice be?

Comments welcome.

Pretty much would take all of them on the list ED although there doesn’t seem to be a lot of right footed wingers who play on the left ? If Gouffran goes we pretty much don’t have anyone to fill that role as Atsu and Richie both look better cutting in so we need some balance !

I’d have put Cairney at the top of that list, with numbers 2,3,4 7 and 13 being being the most likely others.

Going back to some of the other threads I can’t see that keeping Anita would be a sentimental gesture, he’s earned a new contract imo.

Also re. Atzu, it would appear that several of our players have been playing through injuries, kudos to all of them, what a great team spirit.

Iheanacho is a Man City player I think? The lad is immense, if we could buy him we’d have a superb player on our hands. I’m sure we were recommended him before he went to Citeh? Lilongwe mentioned it too, i think? Speaking of which, is Lilongwe not on the blog these days? Not seen him post for a while.

I would say 1-10 are achievable 11-13 I’m not so sure. I would take all of them though even the unproven youngsters for the right money.

we cant afford them all but there are some awsome players there !
carvallo is way above our stature but if we could sign him even though its over half our budget gone what a signing he would be !
tampon and bats howay are no brainers on loan from chelsea with their quality.
townsend again another no brainer imo but at what cost !
in a nacho has said he’s staying at city.
mccarthy and cairney i wouldnt bother with if we are going for carvallo.
pepe, pirez and karamoh only seen youtube and i aint being a “wise” ass so if rafa thinks there good enough and they come cheap ish they would be good as backup/development.
maguire/simonovic yes please but only 1 i suspect if any and i rate simo better.
and grey is as tony says “GRRRREEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAATTTTT” but if tammy or bats howay come in is there any need ?

A lot of news sources say Derby are wanting to buy Hanley! Looks like we would recoup most of the money for him so no loss and guessing the centre half upgrade would come in place of him ?!

Mcarthy only 26, i think hes either been injured a lot of that or hasnt been played due to suitability for formation or Everton have better players for his position….id rather get cairney to play as the 10 with Jonjo and hayden (who i think will be improving seasos on season) Siem can cover for Cairney but we need a Jonjo cover too, imho our cb trio of Clark, mbemba and Lascelles maybe needs one more , probably simonuvic as mcguires price will be astronomical vs his ability.
The striker i would go for is Batshuyi on loan with an option to buy, hes like a cross between gayle and mitro, pace and power, and he can run defenders ragged

    Watching england u20 atm
The use of the video replay took 2 mins
On a plus side it helps the ref
On a sour note if you had a few per half the injury time could be over 10 mins.

Last I seen Derby were wanting 20 million for Hughes ! Not sure if he is worth that but a good player although has not been as good since coming back from injury

He still looks very raw would be weird if we get him on loan as Chelsea will be expecting him to play especially if we are looking at another striker as well?

Just imagine how many goals Mitro could have if he could anticipate and get his lard arse into position in time. It’s an ability in itself.

Man U fans never complained when Ruud Van Nistlerooy only socre 1 of his 150 goals from outside the box.

Still think we need balance across the pitch but have to be realistic in the fact we haven’t got a owner who will throw money at the club like at City. Think we are fine in Gk, need another RB (no really suggestion), LB (Clichy), CB (Maguire), LW (Townsend), RW (Navas), 3 CM (Pires, Cairney, Carvalho, 2 CF (Ihenacho, Gray) and a few for development/U23’s (Pepe, Karamoh). That’s 10 1st teamers at estimated cost of £90m (Have put Ihenacho as.long and added in signing on bonus for Clichy and Navas. If we sell a few it’s possible. It’s also a bloody dream scenario
