With Yoan Gouffran about to be released by Newcastle Rafa Benitez wants a couple of left wingers brought into the side this summer, according to the Chronicle today.
We were linked with Leicester City’s Tom Lawrence in January as a possible transfer target and the 23 year-old has had a good season on loan at Ipswich.
In fact he had an excellent game against us when we lost 3-1 at Portman Road on 17th April – before we won our last three games to win the Championship.
Leicester’s Tom Lawrence on loan at Ipswich last season
Tom has scored 11 times in 39 games at a struggling Ipswich Town this season and also has 11 assists.
He started his career at Manchester United when he was just 8 years old and he’s become a versatile player who can play in a number of different positions; it seems like Rafa likes this player and thinks he can develop him if he can get him to Newcastle.
Tom can play as a winger, forward or attacking midfielder and he has been capped 4 times for Wales and could become a surprise signing for us this summer.
Apparently Newcastle have been watching the player all season and as usual Rafa is very keen to get his targets at Newcastle as soon as possible this summer, so he can have a full pre-season with the majority of his new Premier League squad for next season.
We would expect players to start arriving imminently and maybe Tom will be one of them?
Tom joined Leicester City from Manchester United back in 2014, but he has been unable to break into the Leicester City first team and he has been out on loan at Rotherham, Blackburn, Cardiff City and Ipswich over the last three years to get playing time.
He has played 113 first team games with 19 goals and 20 assists so far in his career and was born in Wrexham.
