Newcastle Reported Keen On England U20 Winger

The news this Sunday on Newcastle seems to be the wingers we are going after this summer, with Rafa wanting to bring in at least a couple of wingers in addition to the already signed Christian Atsu.

The Chronicle  are reporting today we are interested in signing young Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo and certainly in January we were linked a number of times with the 19 year-old England U20 International, who has played for all the England Youth Sides up to U20 level.

19 year-old Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo

Sheyi joined Liverpool from MK Dons back in 2011 when he was just 13 years old and he’s made 13 appearances for the Liverpool first team with one goal.

We have been interested in this player for over a year now and it seems Rafa is a fan of the young player and if we hadn’t been relegated last year Rafa would have tried to sign him then.

Sheyi is one of those impressive young players who Rafa wants to bring to Newcastle and develop them into first team players on Tyneside.

The time may be right for Newcastle to launch a bid for the teenager, because it doesn’t look like the he has much of a future at the Reds with the Hemel Hempstead born player getting very little playing time under manager Jurgen Klopp.

Ojo made just two first team appearances for Liverpool last season in the FA Cup.

He has been out on loan at both Wigan and Wolves in recent seasons to get first team playing time.

Ojo is of Nigerian descent and he has played 43 first team games so far in his career with 4 goals and 8 assists.

We think this talented young player could be a good buy for Newcastle.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

I recall klopp saying last summer that he has a future at lfc but won’t play many games this (last) season but won’t be sold. I’d be surprised if that’s changed.
I’m looking forward to seeing who we sign next as I’m hoping to see experienced and quality…. hoping we make a real statement of intent.

See the Sunday Papers are having a creative time.

Stoke are preparing a £45m package to sign striker Wayne Rooney, 31, from Manchester United. (Sunday People) Rooney is looking at moves to China or the United States after Everton cooled their interest in the England captain. (Sun on Sunday)

West Ham are prepared to meet the £140,000-per-week wage demands of Everton’s England midfielder Ross Barkley, 23.(Star Sunday) – they are stupid enough to do that as well

And Everton and Spurs are supposedly targeting McGuire.

Guess we are looking elsewhere then

Never wanted them anyway…..Why is the value of a player only directly proportional to his nationality and value of the clubs revenue instead of just his ability?
If Harry Mcguire was italian he would be about 8m but because hes home grown the value doubles and since hes played ok in the prem it goes up another 50%…..absolutely ludicrous.
I can see why Rafa is trying to get youngsters in to develope into prem players as home grown/british…..the sell on fees can get you a new team if succesfull, i wonder if this is the business plan given to Mike Cashley.

The amount of players we are getting linked with now is ridiculous. Who do you think is genuinely on our shopping list?

I like maguire but yes probably better value than 22 million elsewhere for sure. I want 2 centre backs. Simunovic didn’t look particularly special for Celtic. Mangala people say is slow….which is a risk at his price too. I’m hoping rafa has lots of quality options up his sleeve. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of our signings have never been mentioned. Nolito was linked and I rate him highly

What would you guys do with:
    Ben El-Mhanni
    Rolando Aarons
    Adam Armstrong.
3 promising players but getting old enough now they should be pushing for the first team.

Ojo not going to happen, not permanently anyway and we can be pretty sure the scousers will want assurances over playing time, were they to allow him to come to us on loan.

Does anyone know the score with Thauvin?
Do we have to sell him to Marseille if other clubs are interested, is he still a Newcastle player and do we have the final decision or is it out of our hands?

who Rafa really wants is anyone’s guess, I’d be surprised if there’s more than 3-4 on that list are actually really targets and I think the papers only got lucky with linking them too us.

I believe it’s out of our hands. Which is a shame because he is probably worth 25m after the season he had.

Is there to be a Rafa ‘Transfer’ Bingo?
5 players you think will leave, 5 you think we’ll sign?

Agreed Levi, I just hope Penfold has learned from the way other clubs conduct business and has added clauses to any Marseille deal. Such as €m’s if they finish in a European position, win silverware and a percentage of his next transfer. Other clubs have been doing it for years!

Still madness and mayhem on the transfer front then? This is the part of the year that I can live without. Just curious, but is there anybody we haven’t been linked with yet? Should do a bingo on this too 🙂 Won’t be many winners.
Enjoyed the cup final yesterday. Arsenal deserved winners imo. Pleased for Arsene – and those poor Arsenal fans of course. Yet we’re deluded? Must be tough though, only getting through to the ko stages of the CL for twenty years on the belt.
Without CL football next season though, Wenger might fancy his chances of the title. Worked well for Chelsea this season.

The Fulham lad aside, I can’t see Rafa looking to the Championship much for new recruits, something I’ve thought all along. Don’t see any future in loan deals either, unless it’s with a view to buy. No point giving other clubs the benefit of Rafa’s experience in bringing players through, just to lose them. No doubt Rafa’s already got his starting eleven for August penned in – over to you then Penfold, no pressure at all.
Big advantage is Ashley’s choice to pay cash for players. Clubs want the money to spend on replacements immediately and Ashley gives them that option, whereas other clubs pay on chucky. That really can be a game changer when it comes to sales. Huge advantage.

I suppose Arsenal can afford to play the u23 in Europe this season, at least until the latter rounds by then they will be in a good position in the league and challenging for top (assuming Arsene stays) If however, Arsene decides to leave i hope they do a Leeds…….ungrateful Barstewards

Shirebrook, I wonder if finishing outside the top four was a cunning plan by Wenger? They only need to bring in two or three really top players, maybe four, and they’ll be contenders. Providing they can keep hold of what they’ve got. I think he’ll stay myself, just for one more year. One last crack at the title without Europe bothering them.

Giimps, I would love to see Arsenal plummet if they drive Wenger out. They certainly wouldn’t receive much sympathy elsewhere. When you look at the money Chelsea and City throw around – and Manure – I’m not sure what they expect sometimes. Still, they’ll need to pick a better replacement than Fergie picked for Manure, that’s for sure. Although Moyes is currently available… 🙂

ED said 98 players linked, earlier today. Not sure if that included Ojo or that Welsh Wing Wizard, TaffyTom Lawrence to join Taffy Dummett on the new Welsh wing! Could be 100 now.
Also fun watching the unmentionables from the dark side trying to find a new manager/clown to fight relegation in the Championship, next season!
Colin W@nker/Neil Warnock is apparently the new favourite!
Doesn’t look like their getting a RAFA, any time soon! 👿

Shirebrook, I know mate, I hate this bit. It’s a buzz when we sign somebody, but generally it’s just speculation and boredom. Good thing this time round though, is that we know we’re in safe hands and anybody Rafa signs has been signed with a definite purpose in mind. He’s back in a league he knows and is comfortable with, picking players he can trust to do a specific job. We’ll see the best of him this coming season and moving forward. Exciting times ahead.

Normally I would agree with the notion that bringing in loan players benefits the parent club more than the destination club. Being fresh up out of the Championship is a different matter though. If (as I expect) the club can only afford to bring in 3 or 4 players, then some loans to make up the difference will benefit Newcastle more than the parent club… there is simply too much on the line, first season back in the PL.

Let the club get its footing in the PL, know which players make the cut, which need replaced, then the following season the club can afford to develop players from within; or insist on buying options installed within loan contracts.
