Rafa Unlikely To Want This Defender At Newcastle

There’s news today that Rafa Benitez will be offered Inter-Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, who was on loan from January at Hull City, but was unable to save them from being relegated.

The 29-year-old centre-back looked good in some games but in other games for Hull he did make some mistakes.

The news in various papers is that Ranocchia’s representatives will try to fix the player up with a move to a Premier League club this summer, since he has no future in Milan.

And since Rafa signed him when he was the Inter-Milan manager, Rafa may even be interested.

Clubs said to be interested in the 6ft 3ins tall center-back include Swansea and Greek side Olympiacos.

Rafa is keen to bring in maybe two center-backs this summer with news today that he could bid £15M for Manchester City’s French International center-back Eliaquim Mangala.

When Rafa was at Napoli he also tried to sign Ranocchia that time, so it will be interesting to see if he still rates the 21 times capped Italian International who was signed by Inter from Genoa.

Andrea has played 166 times for Inter-Milan and he played 16 times for Hull City in the Premier League since being on loan since January.

But we’d be very surprised if Rafa goes for this player, especially when the manager has said he wants some experienced Premier League players brought into the side this summer.

Do you think he would be a good buy for Newcastle?

Ranocchia is not as quick, not as physically strong as Mbemba or Lacelles but like other Italian defenders they take pride in defending and he is very experienced cb. He may not be the best but he will be good for the squad, hull relegation is not his fault alone.
