Rafa Attempting To Negotiate Ambitious Double Deal In Portugal

Portuguese newspaper Correia del Manha are reporting that Sporting Lisbon are expecting Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez to soon make a double swoop for center-back Ruben Semedo and playmaker William Carvalho.

Both players have release clauses in their contracts of €45M, but there’s just no way that Rafa would pay anywhere near that for either player and we expect the Magpies are looking to get a decent package deal from Sporting for the two players.

25 year-old Lisbon playmaker William Carvalho

The news is that Sporting want €20M (£17.4M) for Semedo, but even that would be considered too high for Newcastle.

William Carvalho is a very good and experienced defensive midfielder, who has been linked with many big clubs over the last few years because of his excellent form for Sporting and Portugal.

But with the transfer kitty expected to be anything from £70M to £100M this summer in addition to any money Rafa can generate from selling players, any reports that Newcastle are willing to pay out £50M for these two must surely be wide of the mark?

Carvalho would be a great signing for us, but we’re not sure with Rafa wanting up to 8 new players this summer there’s not enough funds at Newcastle to sign Carvalho outright this summer.

But maybe we can try to get William on a loan deal for the season with an option to buy at the end of the season?

23 year-old Ruben Semedo – Sporting center-back

Semedo will be a lot cheaper and Rafa is hoping that Lee Charnley and his team can negotiate a better deal for the 23 year-old central defender.

Maybe paying out some extra money in the future, depending on the number of  first team appearances Ruben makes for Newcastle.

Lee is known as a very good negotiator, so we will need his skill this summer as he works very closely with Rafa to build hopefully what will become a very good team in the Premier League next season.

That’s what we are all hoping for.
