Newcastle are trying to sign Manchester City center-back Eliaquim Mangala and the club are hoping to get a bargain deal on him for around £12M, with Valencia being the other club interested in Mangala who was on loan there all last season.
But Valencia seem to have financial difficulty coming up with the £15M buy clause in his loan contract and Newcastle have stepped in and bid £12M in cool cash up front, hoping to make a deal for the French center-back.
29 year-old Brazilian defensive midfielder Fernando
But according to a report in the Sun Newcastle are also interested in taking 29 year-old Brazilian defensive midfielder Fernando to St James’ Park this summer,
Newcastle are trying to a deal for both players, but the figure in the Sun report of £28M seems high for the two players.
The Sun report that Newcastle manager is willing to pay up to £10M fee for Fernando.
And both players seem to be available, as City manager Pepe Guardiola will revamp the City squad this summer and bring in some (very) expensive new players.
The Sun quote a source close to the Etihad as saying this:
“Newcastle have shown a keen interest in Mangala, but Valencia are at the table.”
“Valencia don’t want to pay the £20m City want for him though.”
Both players would be good buys for Newcastle and add class and Premier League experience to the squad.
Fernando has made 64 Premier League appearances for City since signing on for them from Porto in 2014 for £12M and has made 101 total appearances.
Mangala has made a total of 48 Premier League appearances and played 33 times for Valencia with two goals last season on loan.
For about £20M or less, these two players would be a good acquisition for Newcastle.
What do you think?

Comment #1@Jamestoon as he is the only poster on here who really gets it
Our business with around 12-15 players leaving should be the below (principles of what that position should bring to the team)
Maguire or Gibson – Old Fashioned centre back who knows the league
Semudo or Mangala – Pace and strength
Gibbs, Robertson or Tierney – Quick attacking full back who can recover
Carvalho – Be a beast in the middle next to Hayden and be our equivalent of Spurs mids
Townsend – Can go past players and score goals
Sarr – If he is half as good/similar to Mane he is worth a risk
Abraham – Great loan signing, don’t understand people on here not wanting loans if it is not to buy at the end, when you are new to a league, we can’t expect to buy the best straight away, need to build in the right way
Batashuayi or Ihneanacho – Pace, know where the goal is and ideal “Marquee” signing

jazzy
I think he will be happy to fight for his place and considering his age and our club size he cant expect to be our main striker unless hes daft (which reportedly hes not) working under Rafa for a year will do a lot of good whether he plays 5 games or 40
Currently we have 1 striker in Gayle who is worth his place and we dont have unlimited supply of funds, Ive no doubt we will bring in a main striker but now the full striker budget can go on him rather than splitting it between 2 players its a long process to build a team wont all happen this summer
