When Will Rafa Resurface For Air And Speak To Fans On Transfers?

We haven’t heard much from Rafa Benitez for the last couple of weeks, but we are not complaining – there is a massive amount of work to do with the help of Lee Charnley to get players in over the next four weeks if possible and before preseason training starts on July 3rd.

But it seems we are going after some very decent players and  have already signed Christian Atsu of Chelsea after his loan spell at the club for last season and the fee was £6.2M.

The good news is that we seem to be very close to signing 19 year-old striker Tammy Abraham on loan from Chelsea for the season, although the deal in not done yet.

Rafa Benitez – working hard on transfers

Newcastle also seem to be close to signing Sporting Lisbon center-back Ruben Semedo and since one of Rafa’s aims in this transfer window is to strengthen the spine of the team – there’s a striker (even if Tammy is only on loan for the season) and a center-back.

We also expect Rafa to bring in one or maybe even two central midfielders and even a goalkeeper although it looks like Pepe Reina is not coming to Newcastle this summer and will stay at Napoli for the last year of his contract there.

That’s according to his agent Manuel Garcia Quilon who said Pepe was staying at Napoli after meeting with Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis yesterday to sort his future at the Italian club.

There was news today that Rafa may have turned his attention to 35 year-old Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who is being released by City and will become a free agent at the end of this month.

Maybe Rafa wants to get three or four signings through the door before he resurfaces for air and is able to be interviewed in the local press, when he usually gives out some good information.

Rafa and Lee Charnley have an awful lot of work to do not only in bringing players into the club but getting rid of as many as 17 first team players this summer.

The Newcastle playing staff will certainly be transformed come September.

Here’s the status of the transfers so far.

Personally, aside from some assurances that they are working hard in the transfer market, I only want to hear from rafa (or the club) when he has a confirmed new signing to announce or to tell us one of our players is moving on. He shouldn’t be responding to speculation in the press and interwebs. He should play our transfer cards close to the vest until they have the player signed on the dotted line. My thoughts anyways. HWTL!

I think Armstrong will turn out to be as good if not better than Abraham. We should loan him to Bristol City if we can. They have produced two 20+ goal strikers in the last two seasons so they are creating chances for forwards. Celtic may be another decent move for Armstrong as they play the ball on the floor and their strikers are guaranteed at least 20 goals a year. He really needs to choose a more suitable team this year.

I agree totally. The fact we haven’t heard from him just makes me think he’s hard at work trying to get the guys we need in the door. Next time we hear from Rafa I want to see him with his arm round our next signing!

Tammy Abraham on a straight loan without an option to buy is still pretty good because at least it puts us in the box seat should he become available in two or three years and if we still want him. He is more likely to develop into a player that might do a job for us, than one who would do a job for Chelsea. He’s good, but at this stage he isn’t Marcus Rashford good, for example, and you have to be at least that good to play for Chelsea.
