Newcastle have made one signing in the summer transfer window so far and that was a fairly easy one with the price already having been set for Rafa Benitez to decide if he wanted to sign Christian Atsu from Chelsea for £6.2M and the player was very keen to join Newcastle.
So once Rafa decided he wanted the 25 year-old Ghanaian International winger it was fairly easy to get the deal done.
Rafa Benitez – unhappy there are not more signings
The news as far as we can tell from the reports is that Newcastle have put in a number of bids for various players and we are reported to be closing in on signing Florian Lejeune of Eibar and Ruben Semedo of Sporting Lisbon.
The Mirror is reporting today that Rafa Benitez has become frustrated at Newcastle’s lack of transfer business completed so far this summer – although to be fair there have not been many deals done at all by many Premier League clubs.
But be that as it may Rafa likes to get things done so if he’s frustrated with the manager knowing exactly what’s going on behind the scenes so he obviously believes more deals should have been completed by now.
It’s clear Rafa wants to move very quickly in this transfer window, because it’s such a vital window for the Newcastle club and we need to be making signings as quickly as possible.

Perez came into his own at the end of the season and made it his position. But I don’t think he’s good enough yet to play every game. We need a first choice attacking midfielder with Perez competing with them.

Comment #42I mentioned a few posts back, if we stick a bid in of around £25M + Diame, I reckon Swansea would be willing to at least start discussing it

Comment #45I agree, he can be an excellent 3rd choice. I’d even go as far as saying he’d make a good 2nd choice, as long as its not for us!

Comment #47We saw glimpses of what he can do when he’s up for it. The fact that we’ll be playing in the premier league might force him to up his game. I’m not saying we should keep him but I’m not ruling him out of our club either. He can still do a job for us, in the cups atleast. 🙂

Comment #51At attacking midfield. Or defensive midfield cover. We still need squad depth, he’s worth keeping for that alone. Unless we sign Delph.

That maybe so but as good a player he is, he’d be a bench warmer at any of the top 6 teams which only leaves Everton. I know Everton have been linked with him but I think they’ll be more concerned with either keeping hold of/replacing Lukaku this summer. Plus, I don’t think they’ll bid for him unless they manage to shift Barkley first, and with what they’re asking for him, I don’t see him leaving Everton. Along with all that, we pay our full fees upfront which will definitely appeal to Swansea, and if we throw Diame (or even De Jong) they’ll have a healthy bank balance and a player capable of filling the gap.

for me he failed in the attacking role and i didnt see enough of him further back to comment
in the attacking role we have perez and dejong and i am sure rafa will bring us in a proper no10
with hayden and sheley there is room further back but i am not sure he is what we need

Ruben Semedo to #nufc took some significant steps forward today. Not done yet, but looking increasingly likely. Cracking young player.

Comment #60The blog is looking good Ed.
I would love us to sign Kieron Gibbs. Great at defending and going forward.
Sigurson would be unbelievable but don’t think we will as it looks like he is off to Everton.
Still think we need a top centre forward to but not sure who.

What about Javier Hernandez as CF? Proven premiership striker, in the last year of his contract and still younger than 30 (just). I could be wrong but I’m sure I read recently that Leverkusen would be open to offers for him this summer

Go into your profile settings and there should be a gravatar link under your profile pic. This will take you to a log in page for WordPress so either log in it register (it’s free). Once you’ve done all that, follow the instructions for selecting a profile pic

If I’m honest mate I have not been overly pleased with the so called transfer targets from today. I was hoping for more high profile targets rather than players that will just stave off relegation

Hernandez was quality at Man Utd. If he would come he would definitely score goals. Is a bit to similar to Gayle though, my only concern?
