Newcastle United have been told that it will cost the club £15M to sign 27 year-old Kieran Gibbs and the news is that Rafa Benitez is willing to meet that figure.
The 27-year-old saw his first team playing time reduced a lot of the last few years as Spanish International Nacho Monreal has made that position his own and has looked really good for the Gunners.
Kieran has only one year left on his contract and that seems a high free to pay for a player who could become a free agent in one year.
The Mirror is reporting that Rafa Benitez is keen to do the deal even at that £15M price, so it looks like Rafa has decided Kieran will still be a good acquisition for Newcastle and will likely become the starting left back if he does sign along the dotted line.
West Brom are also after the player, but we would think Newcastle would be a much better option for him – but there again we are completely biased of course.
🙂
We expect both Achraf Lazaar and Jesus Gamez to leave the club this summer in addition to Frenchman Massadio Haidara and it will then be between current number one Paul Dummett and Kieran if Rafa does sign the 10 times capped English International.
So as far as left backs go that’s three out and one in, although Jesus Gamez can play on either side – but that’s good for reducing the wag bill – well once we can sell Gamez, Lazaar and Haidara – it is.
Rafa wants as many players brought in before the pre-season training starts on July 3rd as possible, so that’s four weeks tomorrow so we are hoping to see new recruits start coming through the door very soon.

Comment #7Just to explain my picture: One of them is an emotionless, pathological killing machine, hell bent on dominating the universe, the other is a Dalek.

I met Dalek Khan in Newcastle at the BBC studios, he was asking about the night spots in the area, he might have just wanted a drink, but I gave him no tactical information whatsoever, instead I directed him to Sunderland figuring he would assume the planet had already been conquered and leave. 😀

Comment #11Theres a lot of Carr’s mistakes need to be moved on. Gouffran will always get the odd goal, but the rest are just expensive mistakes. Mitrovic is loved by the fans for his enthusiasm but needs to go somewhere else to relight his goalscoring. Mo Diame produced very little apart from a fluke goal at Brighton (which was memorable though). I’d move him out too. A new better keeper with Prem experience. Darlow Sels and Krul out. Of course getting too many in at once is a risk. We got away with it last season, but we have no option. We need to strengthen in every department
