There’s a report in Turkey today in spor.mynet.com that Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce are keen on taking Aleksandar Mitrovic on loan for next season.
Newcastle are trying to get two strikers in this summer and they are presently trying to do a deal with 19 year-old striker Tammy Abraham of Chelsea, although we have an inkling he may want to join Brighton & Hove Albion.
If Rafa brings in two strikers, it’s likely that Aleksandar will go down the pecking order at Newcastle and he wouldn’t get too many games in the coming season.
Aleksandar Mitrovic – 22 year-old Newcastle striker
We’re not sure what Rafa thinks of the 22 year-old Serbian International, but a few months ago there were some local reports that Rafa wanted to keep him at Newcastle for next season.
But if he will not get a game that wouldn’t be good for Aleksandar and he has to play regularly somewhere next season.
Daryl Murphy is almost certain to leave Newcastle his summer with a number of Championship clubs already interested in the services of the 34 year-old Republic of Ireland striker.
And if it was between Daryl or Aleksandar as to who leave, surely Murphy would the one to leave?
So it’s unclear to us whether Aleksandar will leave Newcastle permanently or on loan this summer and we’d like the lad to get a chance next season to show what he can do.
But this would be his last chance saloon to impress at Newcastle, since in his first two seasons on Tyneside – one in England’s second division where he was expected to do really well – he has had two fairly mediocre seasons.
Aleksandar has scored 15 goals in 65 total appearances for the Magpies so far.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Armstrong didn’t impress today, looked a bit slow to me.
Ref. seemed a bit biased against us, whenever a Mexican went down they got a foul, whenever one of ours went down play was just waved on.
And the sending off was a terrible decision our lad was clearly fouled even though he did tread on the Mexican players leg, wouldn’t have happened if he wasn’t trying to trip him.
Good win for us though.

Comment #2Essex Geordie Bill – probably not the most accurate way to judge Armstrong but I was following it on the Skysports site via text updates. I can only remember his name being mentioned twice in the first half and once in the second before he was substituted. He must have done well in training to get a start – I don’t think he’ll start the semi-final!

Comment #4Hope we keep Mitro. Despite his goal drought, the team played better as a unit with him on the pitch. I think the goals will come in time and the unselfish play and assists are already evident.

Comment #8I’ve never really been convinced by Mitro. If he has a future with us, I hope he proves me wrong but he has never really been a player I have had high hopes with.

Comment #9Mitro shows commitment but thats all. No room for sentiment here. he’s had 2 seasons with us now, struggled in EPL and then struggled AGAIN in Championship. Do we give him another season and say ‘well hes struggled but it was a step up lets give him another go next season?’ I say cut losses get some cash in and sign a striker who shows commitment and goals. I think, hope that’s what Rafa will do.

Comment #12Mitro scored 9 goals in the EPL on a team that was poorly managed by Stevie Mac. Mitro struggled with discipline on the pitch with a couple red cards and quite a few yellows. This past season his discipline was improved, but struggle to put away his chances, especially in the Oxford match! But he scores frequently for his national team and he had his moments thIs past season (Preston, QPR away). He definitely needs to improve his scoring, but the lad is still young and raw. I think Rafa will keep him, but will also buy another proven EPL strike. I hope so… 🙂

Comment #14I watched the England game and thought Armstrong ran his socks off for the team with no service from his team mates at all..England played some very good stuff but fell short in the last third through some sloppy play, some players were playing for themselves and wasted umpteen opportunities by not delivering passes that the approach play deserved. I think it’s a bit harsh to be critical of Armstrong when the poor decisions made by others was easy to see,so many mistakes were made that Mexico were never out of it and it nearly cost England the game.

Comment #17Mitro actually seemed to be trying very hard to keep his temper under control in the last few games and despite some real provocation from the opposing players managed to do it fairly well.
I suppose pre-season training and games will give us some clues as to whether Rafa wants him but not sure if he trusts him.

It looked to me that he was told to stay up front as a lone striker and often looked totally isolated with as you say nothing to feed off. There was a couple of times when he had the chance to run past a defender but got caught pretty easily every time. Which is annoying as that is supposed to be his forte.

Comment #22I’ve watched Arma a good few times and although he’s a good player obviously, he’s nowhere near good enough to compete for a first team place at a Prem club right now. Looked abit out of his depth at Barnsley last season scoring 6 goals in 34 games, although he did score a cracker against PNE on his debut. Nowhere near as good as the other big clubs young strikers like Iwobi, Abraham, Rashford etc in my opinion. Would like to see him get a fair chance in pre-season though still.

If true, R.I.P Tiote, seven years an enforcer for us, and while only one of your wonder goals counted, you gave us so much more, still hoping this is just a yellow card.
