It seems that Newcastle are making a strong move for Arsenal target Henry Onyekuru and there’s an exclusive report we have put in an offer that’s reported to include offering the 20 year-old £36K/week wages.
Onyekuru currently plays for Belgium second division club KAS Eupen, but has had two good seasons there and he has already been capped once by the Nigerian National side.
Arsenal have been speaking with the player and Henry has talked highly of the Gunners and his hero Thierry Henry very highly, but the youngster also wants to play first team football and he will get a better chance of doing that at Newcastle than at Arsenal.
20 year-old Henry Onyekuru – Newcastle make bid?
He has already made is clear he could reject offers from big clubs if there’s no chance of him playing in the first team there.
Newcastle and the Gunners are both willing to pay the KAS Eupen striker’s £6.8M release clause in his contract, so the fee is not a problem.
And there’s an exclusive from Score Nigeria today that Newcastle have come in and offered the 20 year old £36K/week to join the Magpies.
Onyekuru scored a good 24 goals and 9 assists in 41 appearances for Belgian club Eupen last season and still has three years left on his current deal.
In total he has made 60 appearances with 30 goals and 11 assists in his two seasons at Eupen and that’s a good return.
West Ham and Anderlecht are also said to be linked with the striker, but it appears the Gunners and the Magpies are in the lead to sign the youngster.
Henry made his International debut for Nigeria in a 3-0 friendly win over Togo on June 1st.
There have been reports in the last few days that Arsenal are close to lodging a bid, but it looks like Newcastle have already stolen a march on the north London club, if the report in Score Nigeria is accurate.
What do you think?

Comment #41I wouldve like to have more of Thauvin to be fair, I dont think he ever really had a chance to show us fans what he could do but suppose we dont see what goes on in training and behind the scenes. Looked unplayable at times last season in France. All the best to him

Comment #42Jazzg, I agree we need starting players, but we also need youth and potential too. For too long we’ve existed with an on paper first 11 who would appear competent, but with nothing waiting in the wings with enough talent and ambition to sieze a first team opportunity when it comes. Not saying this guy has the level, but he might.

Comment #43Salomon.. Yeah I just read that..
It’s been quite disappointing window so far..i know we’re just 1day in, but still..links to ok players from lower leagues don’t inspire me much.. We need at least one world class player in, so others will follow.. Same as city did years ago with robinho.. I know we can’t compete with them in wages etc.. But there are top players out there who don’t play much, and with rafa & world cup next year.. We might have a shot at signing one.. If we want to survive/finish the season among top 10..we must go all in..NOW..before clubs such as Everton sell lukaku and have a 200 mio war chest..

I didnt mean the same lad, theres new risky young prospects every year that is a must sign and tbh this kid might cost peanuts in 2 years if he doesnt develop which happens plenty. I take it u have seen this lad play more than me though (which wouldnt be hard) hence u rating him so highly but a kid coming from a poor league to save us from relegation sound very familiar to me and it ended in Championship football
Also Boudebouz would be a risk but atleast hes proven in a half decent league, experienced and we’ve scouted him for 4/5 years

Totally understand your point mate on the kid, we’ll see what happens anyway we might not even be in for him yet but he has something very different about him either way. Boudabouz does look quality tbh but his half decent league has been seriously risky for us too with Rivierre, Saivet, Thauvin and Cabella who we scouted for a long time also. Boudebouz does have the flair were missing though so hope this ones true.
Does anyone know if Rolando Aarons is close to a comeback or if he’s even been offered a new deal? Not heard much of him for a while

Didn’t he cost them £1m two years ago from Bastia?
Now it’s supposedly £13m.
No thanks. A few goals and assists in a piss poor league.
Cabella mkII. Prepare to be dry bummed. Again.

Comment #49I like this guys stats even in a poor league comparatively. Slight issue with losing both him and Atsu for Afcon as they may play in similar positions. I love the idea of Ritchie townsend being our wingers with this guy, Aarons and Atsu all competing maybe rotating with a few games in the under 23s as well which we should be aiming to fill with great potential youngsters to improve the level. If I had 100 mill to spend I would use 70 mill for 4 first teamers and 30 million for 5 or 6 great prospects for the under 23s. If one or two progress at today’s prices they would pay for themselves in recouped transfer fees. It’s a 5 year plan to create a generation like the Man U side that all progressed together. Our development squad has underperformed in this regard for the all the time I’ve supported.
