Newcastle have already been linked with two experienced goalkeepers who have Premier League experience this summer in 34 year-old Pepe Reina of Napoli and 35 year-old free agent Willy Caballero of Manchester City.
Napoli want £4M for their Spanish International goalkeeper, but really want to keep him in Italy, although Pepe recently turned down a two year extension offered by the club because he wanted a better wage deal.
His current deal has just one year to run and it’s still possible Newcastle could sign Pepe, but this thing is dragging on a bit.
West Ham’s 30 year-old Spanish goalkeeper Adrian
And there was news a few days ago that Chelsea wanted Caballero as back up to their world-class Belgian keeper Thibaut Courtois.
And it seems Caballero would prefer to join the Blues where he would probably get games in the Champions League as well as sitting on the bench for all the Premier League games, unless Courtois is injured of course.
The Sun is reporting today that Rafa Benitez is interested in West Ham’s 30 year-old Spanish goalkeeper Adrian, who lost his club place at the east London club last season to Darren Randolph, but regained it before the end of the season.
Adrian signed on at the Hammers back in 2013 from Real Betis and he has significant Premier League experience having played 106 league games in total for the Hammers.
But we wonder if Adrian is any better than the goalkeepers we already have in Tim Krul, Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow.
And Elliot and Darlow seem to be improving as they get more first team games at Newcastle under Rafa Benitez.
But it seems the manager wants to bring in a new goalkeeper and is ready to sell the £5M rated Matz Sels to help fund the deal.
What do you think?
