Newcastle Favorites To Sign Batshuayi But There Could Be Problems

Newcastle have been favorites to sign 23 year-old Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea for the past two weeks, with the  current odds being 3/1 with Everton second favorites at 7/2.

But Newcastle are reported to be very close to signing his Chelsea team-mate – 19 year-old Tammy Abraham on loan for the season.

One of the sticking points with Abraham moving to Newcastle was that Chelsea asked Newcastle if their teenager would get enough playing time next season.

The reports are that Rafa Benitez has assured  Chelsea manager Antonio Conte Tammy will make plenty of appearances at the north-east club if he comes in on loan, with Brighton bring the other PL club vying for the player.

There’s just no way we can sign Michy Batshuayi  outright this summer for over £30M (Chelsea paid £33M for him last summer) – we just don’t have the money available with Rafa wanting to bring in up to eight first team players this summer.

The best we could do would be to sign Michy  on loan for the season with an option to buy him next summer.

But it that happens how can we give Tammy Abraham enough playing time?

So we would doubt very much if Chelsea would be willing to let both strikers leave on loan to Newcastle since it’s difficult to see how Abraham would get enough playing time with 23 goal Dwight Gayle also pushing for starts.

Chelsea rate Tammy Abraham very highly and Conte believes the player, who scored 26 goals for Bristol City last season in the Championship on loan, will be ready to push for a first team spot as early next year.

Whereas with Michy Batshuayi the Belgian International played only 27 times with 9 goals for the Blues since moving from Marseille last summer  and it would appear he has no future at Stamford Bridge under Antonio Conte.

So we just cannot see both strikers moving on loan to Newcastle – one of them on loan is possible – but not both of them.

If we could take one of the Chelsea strikers for next season who would you take?

What do you think?
