Kevin Mbabu Moves Back Home To Young Boys In Permanent Move

It’s not really a surprise that Kevin Mbabu has made his loan move  to Young Boys permanent – after he played well for them on loan last season.

We didn’t think Kevin had a future at Newcastle now we are in the Premier League and Rafa is strengthening the squad significantly for next season, although Kevin  is a good young player at only 21 and some supporters will still be said to see him leave.

21 year-old Kevin Mbabu – signed by Young Boys

Here’s the statement just issued by Newcastle on the move:

Kevin Mbabu has joined BSC Young Boys for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old defender enjoyed a successful loan spell at the Stade de Suisse last season, helping Adi Hutter’s side to finish second in the Swiss Super League.

Mbabu has signed a three-year contract with Young Boys.

He joined Newcastle as a teenager from Servette in January 2013 and, after injuries restricted his initial progress, Steve McClaren handed him a surprise debut in a Capital One Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in September 2015 before pitching him in for a Premier League bow against Chelsea three days later.

Mbabu also had a loan spell with Rangers and made a total of five appearances for the Magpies in all competitions. The club wishes him well for the future.

Here’s the current status of the summer transfers with Kevin Mbabu now gone and we’ll wait to see what the estimates are for the fee – we’ll estimate it at £1M for the moment.

Kevin played only 5 times for the Newcastle first team after sustaining a number of injuries during his four and a half years at the club since he was signed from Serviette in January, 2103.

But he played 19 games with 2 goals for Young Boys last season on loan and played well by all accounts.

We wish Kevin all the very best for the future.

Looked like a very good young player in a position we dont really have cover in. Looks like we’re moving backwards lately.

Good luck to him, but I don’t think he will be a top player.
Watched the u tube stuff on him re last season. Every clip he is running back at pace and making a tackle or making forward runs that rely on power and pace but little skill.
No great shots, no great range of passing, is he good with defensive headers ?
For me he looked like Gareth Bale without the skill.
like Santon you’d struggle to get past him, but that does not make him a great defender.
Would think Rafa sees it that way, so that’s what matters.

Sad to see him leave myself. Lot of potential and still very young. He’ll go on to make a good living in football because he’s a good young player blessed with great speed. We might live to regret this, but won’t be the first time.
Wish him the best of luck for the future.

Decent young player, did a job for us (better than most, including me, expected) when he was needed. Hope he has an excellent career.

I’d take Lucas in a heartbeat. Just the sort of player we need in that position; experience and nous. Would offer a safe pair of hands whilst Hayden finds his feet at PL level. I think I remember Carroll describing him as the most awkward opponent he’d ever played against.

Speaking of the big man… I still think Carroll is the best centre forward we can sign on a permanent deal this summer. It wouldn’t surprise me if West Ham spend big on a couple of forwards, which could clear the way for a return. It would be pretty much a straight swap with Mitrovic in terms of transfer fee, albeit with slightly higher wages. But Mitrovic is not and never will be fit to lace Carroll’s boots. Him, Gayle, Abraham, Perez and Murphy would be a decent enough forward line first season back. C’mon Rafa!!!!!

Jib, I apologise if I did not meet your requirements for “beautiful emotive” (?) wordage. And to think you are constantly chirping in and slating blog contributors for not communing over football matters…

You are the living definition of a hypocrite. I have to commend you though on the lack of gaffes recently, not partaking has helped you in that quest somewhat.

Anyone else becoming concerned that our slow progress with signings is down to the potential purchase of the club? As in the current owner doesn’t want to spend his money if he’s about to sell us? Or is it just that the window has only just opened.

Pissed off we sold this kid. Had the makings of a great versatile defender and in a position we’re crying put for cover too. Never given a proper chance or run in the side. When he played he even impressed. What has a youngster gotta do to earn a contract here!?

Can understand your anger but to look at all angles…. the club had him for years and he was crocked a lot so there would of been little faith in him to last a season, plus the lad was playing first team football when he eventually got some fitness at…not being harsh a lower league…the lad will want to play and we cant guarantee it coz of his injury record and doubts about his age and ability, they can…..i would of loved if he’d said i enjoyed playing last year but im goin to stop and fight for a place…but once he had first team football it eas never goin to happen, hopefully newcastle have put a first option to buy back in his contract.

Mate he’d of eaten up a registration place and likely never played plus he only had a year left on his contract I think? Best thing all round that he moved on

I will eat my words if he ever turns into a player but I highly doubt he will…might get a move to a Scottish team at some point but I reckon that’ll be his lot

If you’re injury prone then it seems you face an uphill battle getting into Rafa’s squad. Aarons will get another chance but our players with horrific injury records will go. First thing he did when he arrived was release Obertan, Marveaux and Saylor. Haidara, De Jong, Krul, Lazaar and Good I think will be off as well.

But for the massive list of outs we are going to have I’d like to see us get a wriggle on and sign some players!

    ‘HUDDERSFIELD CLOSE IN ON MOOY’

Huddersfield are closing in on a £10m club-record deal to sign Aaron Mooy from Manchester City, PA reports.

The Australia midfielder spent last season on loan at the club and was the Terriers’ player of the year as they won promotion to the Premier League for the first time.

Press Association Sport understands Huddersfield are in the advanced stages of a deal which will see them pay £8m for the 26-year-old with a further £2m in add-ons.

    On Lucas:
If he’s anything like the player he was (he’s only 30?), then definitely yes. We need a battler with skill.
On Mbabu: Decent player, from what I’d seen. A steal at 1 m. but onwards and upwards (I hope).

And, a repost for those who sleep late or live in various time zones. (It didn’t include the need for a n.10 – which we have, unless Perez steps up):

‘If you asked me would I have Smalling instead of Clark or even Lascelles, I’d think about it. Then I’d say no. And, we’ve got Mbemba who isn’t bad either. If we do buy a CB (it’s a long season I know) he must be head and shoulders above what we got, as preparation for the next level. Despite being an MU player, he ain’t that. In fact, he may be part of the reason MU aren’t the MU of old.

So Rafa, you rightly ask, what to focus on? Well, ok: not on a goalie. That position has competition and you can only play one at a time. Creative MF? Spot on. On his day, Shelvey can be very good. Problem: first 3 words of last sentence. Hayden is a work in progress. As is Shelvey. Spend 25 million on a player there.

CF? Spot on. I’m a fan of Mitrovic, I think he will come good. Problem: the word ‘think’ in the previous sentence. We need a CF who’ll immediately come good. Spend 30+ million there. BTW, Gayle will get 8-10 goals. Good, but not enough.

Left wing? Good call. Atsu is a good player, but he can do a disappearing act. One more winger who can play both sides is a good idea. 10+ mil.

LB or RB? Yes, given the fact we have released and will release a few in that position. 10+ mil.

I’ll leave you to it man. I know you’re busy
    ?’

Good signing for they considering where they are but cant say am upset we are ‘missing out’ on him personally

I reckon they will get a good few hammerings this coming season dont score enough and their defense wont cope with PL footballers

An Argentine football player has caused outrage after admitting that he used a needle to hurt his rivals during a cup match on Sunday.

Federico Allende, a defender for lower-division club Sport Pacifico, bragged in a radio interview about using the needle several times against strikers from top-division club Estudiantes.

Allende said that players had to be clever in order to win. (BBC)

If anita and mbabu going is a sign we have got 2 new full backs coming in I’m happy. Hayden looking like he’s away then a new cb. With sels and Krul offski then an experienced keeper to join us. I’d say rafa will have sorted the defence.
I’m wondering if rafa is going for a bold statement of parading a load of new players in front of the press in one go. Reina, lejeuen, 2 new fb’s, carvalho…come on rafa…give us a team to be excited about.

Cannot stand Lucas, he is a horrible footballer. He constantly concedes free kicks. How he isn’t sent off in every game he plays is beyond me. The only conclusion I can make is that he gets away with so much as he plays for a media favourite in Liverpool. I will be gutted if he signs for us he is not the type of player I want to see playing for us.
I’d rather stick with Colback than sign him.
Good luck to Mbabu, a good player.

I was going to make a comment re. Mbabu before Ed did this thread, I saw in the transfer box he’d been sold for £1m which I reckon is way under what he will be worth in the coming years. I think YB have got a real bargain and ironically we’ll probably end up paying a sh!t load more for a similar or lesser player.

Sels, Anita, Hanley, Diame, gouffran Murphy out from last years squad
Mbabu, Krul, saivet, de Jong, riviere, ameobi also out. Might get 20 million but just get rid

30 million on 5 under 21 players to develop eg the tier 2 Belgian league Nigerian guy and push first team for next year

    Leaves

GK Reina/Darlow/Elliot send woodman on loan
    Yedlin/Mbemba/Sterry dummett/Leeds lad fb
Smalling Lascelles clark Mbemba dummett cb
Cm shelvey, Hayden, Lucas, Colback, delph

Cf sturridge, gayle, Perez, Abrahams, mitrovic ( send Armstrong on loan )

This is a 90 million plan removing dead wood ( 10 mill left to support wages ) if the magic 100 million was available. That is a squad which could take 8th place next year with some luck and some magic, love it
