Newcastle Fans’ Anxiety Starting To Rise Over No New Signings

Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley have already done a lot of work this summer and offers are in for a number of our transfer targets,  but they are finding the transfer market difficult with players being valued at ridiculous prices.

And even when we have seemed to have got a player almost signed, sealed and delivered – like Tammy Abraham on loan – it seems that his agent has entered into the fray and delayed everything.

He’s hoping for new offers for his client after Tammy has played and presumably done well for the England U21 side at the European Championships in Poland.

New offers in this context means the agent will make more money for himself.

These two men working very hard behind the scenes

We have been close to signing center-back Ruben Semedo of Sporting who eventually went to Valencia and we have been linked closely with signing both Angers forward Nicolas Pepe and Florian Lejeune of Eibar, but both deals seem to have stalled for whatever reason.

A former top target – Hull City center-back Harry Maguire – was a real favorite of ours but was signed by Leicester City recently for a high £17M, about £5M above Newcastle’s valuation of the player.

Newcastle have been linked with two experienced Premier League goalkeepers in Pepe Reina of Napoli and the released Manchester City goalie Willy Caballero – but no real movement on these targets with both deals seemingly stalled.

Either of these goalkeepers would offer real stability and experience to the Newcastle defense.

There’s news in the Chronicle today that there’s no panic going on behind the scenes and that Rafa has plenty of targets identified and of course lots of contacts out there – he’s done his homework very well – as usual.

But Rafa did expect to have at least two players through the door by now in addition to Christian Atsu being signed for £6.2M.

There’s certainly no room for panic but that doesn’t stop some Newcastle fans from getting just  a little bit anxious over no new signings.

Especially when Rafa has made it clear he wants players signed before pre-season starts in just over two weeks time.

It appears like that’s not going to happen.

But it’s a very difficult market, so we’ll have to stay patient.

But sometimes that can be difficult for some of us.

Note: Emma Daubney and her daughter Tiegan are taking part in the Race for Life for Cancer Research UK on 1st July 17th at Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire.

All donations go to Cancer Research UK.

Emma’s partner Danny lost a work colleague a couple of years ago to cancer and to had to watch the effects chemotherapy had on his body and it was heart wrenching to him as his friend had terminal cancer, but doggedly kept coming to work and plodding along.

Sadly he died in hospital and Emma’s auntie also had breast cancer but luckily came through it and was giving the all clear in the end.

So the two ladies are doing a great thing in raising funds to fight this disease and there are new treatments being developed all the time.

See if you can donate and help them reach their goals – Here’s the donation page

Thanks.

Transfer fees have gone thru the roof recently but that does,nt mean we cant at least match Leicester for players like Maguire. Other not so expensive players have turned their backs on us and that is worrying. There is too much history regarding Ashley and transfer funds being made available,or not, for a lot of fans not to be a tad concerned. We may have Rafa in charge, but i think Ashley does,nt truly have the club at heart, bearing in mind he is wanting to bring in new investors, or even sell the club outright.i simply do not, and will never trust the man.
Rafa signed a 3 yr deal and was brought in initially to keep us up,and has decided to trust Ashley on his word regarding funds being made available for players now that he has brought us back up. This season above any other under the Fatmans tenure will tell us wether he is still treating the fans with contempt

I hear what you are saying
mashleys legacy will continue to haunt us for some time.
Some repeated and consistent positive action over a long period of time is needed to heal old wounds. Personally I would need more than a season or two to convince me he has the club at heart.
Having written that, things seem positive at the moment, but I will reserve my judgment until the transfer window is over.

Anxiety is starting to rise? Some fans need to wake up. The transfer window isn’t officially open, alot of players are still on holiday and there’s no major movement in any club. We will be fine I’m sure, I trust in Rafa and believe we will get in what he thinks we need.
