There’s some positive news in the Sunday Sun today that in the last week there has been interest from two new potential investors from China in Newcastle United.
With Rafa now at the helm of all football matters at the club and the club having had an average home crowd of over 51,000 in the second division last season, the outlook for Newcastle United FC going forward has to be very bright.
The two groups expressing new interest are based in the Chinese city of Shenzhen and the news is that enquiries have been made as to possible investment in Newcastle.
Mike Ashley, Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley
The Sunday Sun has reported that the leak last week that Ashley was interested in investment in the club was deliberate, to gauge the level of interest in the Tyneside club.
There’s an interview in the Sunday Sun today with Alexander Jarvis, who is the Chairman of Blackbridge Cross Borders – a company who have advised on several potential Chinese takeovers.
This is what Jarvis has said about the potential interest in Newcastle from China:
“I have been contacted by two groups from Shenzhen since news that Newcastle are available came out on Monday.”
“This is a bit of a fishing trip from Newcastle: trying to find out whether there is interest from China and there is definitely global interest in Newcastle.”
“The price that is being put around is a high one but Mike Ashley will feel he can get that sort of money for it.”
“There are serious people who are still interested in Premier League football and it’s not quite as complicated as people in England sometimes think.”
“There is interest in Newcastle in Asia – it has a fan base in Hong Kong, Malaysia, China.”
“And of course they have a world-class manager in Rafa Benitez and Premier League football, which makes them appeal.”
It’s reported that another group of brokers is currently working on behalf of Newcastle and not Blackbridge Cross Borders, but nevertheless the fact potential investors are contacting their Chairman Alexander Jarvis, shows real interest in Newcastle United.
And we’re sure there will be real interest in Newcastle United in the US – on this side of the pond.
And the news for Newcastle fans in the Sunday Sun today is a good one.
Rafa’s going nowhere and in fact the heightened interest now in Newcastle United on a global level is because we now have Rafa Benitez as our manager and it’s a match made in heaven.
So Rafa is going nowhere.
And consortiums are much more willing to invest in clubs where there is a proven world-class manager in place, because it reduces the risks for them.
The idea is to get some global investment into Newcastle, so on a financial level we will soon be able to compete with the top six Premier League clubs in England – on the financial side of things.
That will also help us on the football side of things too – and that cannot be bad.
🙂

Note: Emma Daubney and her daughter Tiegan are taking part in the Race for Life for Cancer Research UK on 1st July 17th at Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire.
All donations go to Cancer Research UK.
Emma’s partner Danny lost a work colleague a couple of years ago to cancer and to had to watch the effects chemotherapy had on his body and it was heart wrenching to him as his friend had terminal cancer, but doggedly kept coming to work and plodding along.
Sadly he died in hospital and Emma’s auntie also had breast cancer but luckily came through it and was giving the all clear in the end.
So the two ladies are doing a great thing in raising funds to fight this disease and there are new treatments being developed all the time.
See if you can donate and help them reach their goals – Here’s the donation page
Thanks.
