Newcastle were said to be confident of getting Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham to sign for us after Rafa Benitez had a good talk to him one-on-one at St. George’s Park, where the teenager was training with the England U21 side before they set off for Poland for the European U21 Championships which started on Friday.
It was a good meeting and Rafa promised Tammy he would get lots of playing time at Newcastle and it appeared the youngster was receptive to moving to Newcastle on loan for the season.
But still nothing with his agent now saying nothing will happen until after the U21 Championships are complete at the end of this month.
19 year-old Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham – loan costs are rising
The Mail are now reporting the costs of the loan del are rising and that Newcastle will need to pay a £1M signing-on fee to the player and his agents.
In addition Tammy’s wages will be doubled by Chelsea to £50K/week and we pay that for the season plus there is a bonus scheme of payments, based on how many goals he scores.
That incentive-based fee would replace the normal loan fee for the season.
This all seems to be coming from demands from the Wasserman Media Group and the player’s agent Neil Fewings and we had reported his agent wanted more money yesterday and that he was waiting for better offers coming in – specifically it seems – for himself.
The Mail reports Chelsea are aware of the additional fees being discussed and are comfortable with them, but they would be since they don’t have to pay them.
With these new demands it seems things have even gone backwards with the Abraham potential deal – and it wouldn’t surprise us now if some clubs like Brighton and even Newcastle withdraw from the deal.
The agents of the players these days are in this business to make a killing for themselves and it’s going to ruin the game (it already has), but we’ve said that many times before.
Tammy was impressive last season with 26 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions for Bristol City in the Championship and Chelsea now want him to have a full season on loan in the Premier League, before he competes for a Chelsea starting place – maybe as soon as next summer.
There’s a lot of money with PL clubs these days and it seems everybody wants a piece of it – including the players’ agents with their high financial demands.
It’s turning out to be a very difficult transfer market this summer with clubs not quite sure what to ask for their players, since the transfer fees seem to be rising dramatically again this summer from last summer, when they were bad enough.

Note: Emma Daubney and her daughter Tiegan are taking part in the Race for Life for Cancer Research UK on 1st July 17th at Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire.
All donations go to Cancer Research UK.
Emma’s partner Danny lost a work colleague a couple of years ago to cancer and to had to watch the effects chemotherapy had on his body and it was heart wrenching to him as his friend had terminal cancer, but doggedly kept coming to work and plodding along.
Sadly he died in hospital and Emma’s auntie also had breast cancer but luckily came through it and was giving the all clear in the end.
So the two ladies are doing a great thing in raising funds to fight this disease and there are new treatments being developed all the time.
See if you can donate and help them reach their goals – Here’s the donation page
