Newcastle Patience Pays Off – To Get Great Deal On Midfielder

The sooner Newcastle can sign two or three players the better we will feel this summer, although Newcastle did move Matz Sels out yesterday so that’s seven of the first team squad we have moved out this summer and so far brought in 25 year-old Chelsea winger Christian Atsu for £6.2M.

With pre-season training due to start in 10 days time a week on Monday, it would be very good if we can sign  say three new players by then and get some momentum going in the transfer market.

But some good news today is that it looks like we are close to signing Manchester City defensive midfielder Fernando for around £5M.

29 year-old defensive midfielder Fernando

There’s an interesting piece in the Sun that Newcastle have held their nerve and while City are reported to have wanted to recuperate £10M of the £12M they paid Porto for Fernando three years ago – it looks like we will get him for £5M.

That would be a great deal for Newcastle in today’s market.

We were linked with Fernando a few weeks ago but then things went quiet, but this week things have perked up and the player also is reported to want to join Rafa’s revolution on Tyneside and that always helps us.

Lucas Leiva of Liverpool was also an option at defensive midfield, but the news is that with Newcastle able to get Fernando for only £5M, he will be the choice for the defensive midfielder coming into the cub.

And 6ft tall Fernando does have good Premier League experience appearing over 60 times in the PL for City.

He has always looked a classy player who is low-key, but certainly gets the job done in the middle of the park.

The Brazilian can do very well under the coaching of Rafa Benitez at Newcastle.

Let’s hope we can this player signed up quickly.

What do you think?

Like I said yesterday – A good buy but wages are normally the problem when signing players from Man City!

Can you hear the drums Fernando?
I remember long ago another starry night like this
    In the firelight Fernando
You were humming to yourself and softly strumming your guitar
I could hear the distant drums
And sounds of bugle calls were coming from afar

Patience – is he the creative, combative midfielder we crave?

In all honesty, no signings to date stinks of Penfold/Fatash penny pinching

Totally uninspired. This guy is no better than Colback. We seem to be still going down the same old route of paying sub £10m for players. If we want to compete in the PL this season our aspirations need to be raised considerably. I know its still early in the transfer market but I was expecting us to have broken our transfer record by now, which is still only £16m. I still have faith in Rafa though, just wish I could see something positive happen thats going to get everyone excited. Remember, £16m gets you very little in todays market.

honestly with that team i think wed be in a relegation scrap. I like lascelles but still not convinced how good he actually is, especially against the better forwards in the league.

Personally i think Fernando is a good signing, prem experience and can keep us ticking over. Waiting for lejuene now, potential alderweireld in our ranks? looks good what i’ve seen on youtube… although I’m sure if someone put together a paul dummett best bits montage he’d look world class

We should be raiding Man City’s and Chelsea’s larder of players a lot more
Problem is they’re all on ridiculously bloated wages.
I’d personally like Fabian Delph, a Brit with experience, and that Chelsea striker that wants first team action, Batshit or whatever his name is
