Report – Pepe Reina’s Future At Napoli Will Be Decided On Monday

Gianluca Di Marzio is a Sky Sports reporter in Italy and he has tweeted today that it looks like Monday will be the decision day for Pepe Reina and whether he stays at Napoli.

The Newcastle target has been trying to agree a contract extension to stay in Naples for a few weeks, but no such agreement has been forthcoming.

The news is that  a decision will be made on whether a deal can be reached on a contract extension to keep the 34 year-old veteran goalkeeper at Napoli for the next few seasons.

34 year-old Pepe Reina – D Day is Monday

Pepe Reina’s long-serving agent Manuel Garcia Quilon will fly in on MOnday to meet with Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis for the second time in just over three weeks, to try to sort out the future of the former Liverpool goalkeeper.

If an agreement cannot be reached expect Rafa Benitez to move in quickly and make an offer for his former Liverpool goalkeeper with personal terms having already been agreed to bring Pepe to Newcastle.

The is what the tweet says – translated to English.

“Monday will be the decisive day for whether Pepe Reina will stay at Naples: there is a scheduled meeting between his agent and the President Aurelio De Laurentiis.”

“This encounter will clarify if Napoli will have to seek his replacement or just a goalkeeper to combine with Reina.”

“The future of which will  be written on Monday.”

Newcastle and Napoli both need some clarification one way or the other on whether Pepe Reina will be staying in Naples for next season.

This is getting almost as bad as the Tammy Abraham saga.

What do you think?

So there’ll be no signings for the next few years then?

    Enough!

Liked the preseason fixtures, specially the once in Germany.Hope atleast 3 or 4 players signed up by July 3, so that they get perfect preparation.Still though haven’t really excited by the players Rafa is after. Then again, players prices are over-inflated.Oh well,…

    Re: previous thread.
OneAlanShearer, why on earth would you want rid of Darlow and what makes you think Rafa wants to sell him? Is the speculation from darn saarf starting to loosen some marbles?
For a youngan the lad is class, give him another couple of years and he could become World Class.
It would make no sense at all to sell off that level of potential, he’s still only 26 and has made far fewer mistakes last season than many of his more senior peers.
If Rafa is looking at getting Reina, it will be to challenge and mentor not undermine Darlow. He’d have a similar appeal in nurturing Woody.
Never ceases to amaze me how we’ve had no problems over the years identifying and getting real top quality keepers, yet it’s taken until now to have a gaffer who protects them with decent stoppers.

    40 parachute
    7 championship
    8 fun88
    6 sissoko
    10 touvan (if payment due)
We also did not spend in jan so theres cash there maybe
    20.

This week should see some movement
Like most i want it done asap but truth is its never that fast.

magspuggy, where is the money going to come from to pay last season’s wages and costs, if you give all the parachute money to Benitez to spend on players.

40 parachute — Gone on costs/wages for previous season
7 championship — same as above
    8 fun88 — £8 million
6 sissoko — Spent on Atsu
10 touvan (if payment due) — Perhaps £3 million installment at best. (Likely 2.5 a year over 4 years)

That only equates to £11 million.

I like Darlow as well but am not sure Rafa rates him mate he was looked over in favour of Sels and was dropped for Elliott at the end. Also a fair bit of talk about Chelsea wanting him and Town being open to it

jazzyp, who said anything about Rafa being promised £11 million? It would be interesting if for once you didn’t take a post completely out of context. The income put forward as being £55 million only adds up to approximately £11 million.

Actually, it was switch that estimated £55 million including parachute payment. magspuggy’s was a bold £71 million. If you believe the club has that amount to spend on transfer fees – fair play – you may be in for a let down.

The player speculation is amazing – do we really know ANYTHING until it happens? “I understand” that “sources say” we missed out on signing a little pink kitten from the Shelter.

The club was able to do a lot of transfer business in & out last summer, due to the PL money. That tap has been turned off this summer.

Say even £50 million… how is Benitez going to be able to generate that amount of money?

Unless the £30 million loan Ashley put into the club was surplus, I cannot see where this war-chest is going to come from.

jazzyp, no insult intended. Somebody just put up an informative comment on a ‘The Mag’ article:

“NUFC Financial accounting year runs from July 1st to June 30th – this means any deals to be done would be best completed AFTER July 1st so the monies come from next financial year income (which will include the all Premiership fees) – bear in mind that having a big profit attracts big taxes so offsetting this forthcoming seasons income against a couple of big transfers would help reduce the tax burden. This isn’t new and is one of the ways Ashley HAS managed to legally reduce our tax bills. Wait until early July and I’m sure we’ll see some £££ being spent.”

I will try and remain patient for another week then.

I think Rafa is a very clever bloke and will not have only wanted verbal assurances but to see the figures as well.

It’s expensive running a football club and I believe Ash has hinted to us that there is not a bottomless pit by stating “He can have all club generated fynds” which is his way of trying to appease the fans rather than stating “I will back the manager” .

In other words he is saying whatever Rafa has is the lot and the fans can’t have a dig at him suggesting he is holding some of the money back.

How much Rafa has is the magic question.

Reading into the players he has let go suggests a keeper and RB must have been sorted …..

It’s our goal machine I am waiting for, hopefully that is where Rafa will surprise us and I wouldn’t be surprised if we haven’t been linked with him yet !

I have never sat in the Gallowgate mate so i might try it and see what it is like.As i have said before the atmosphere has totally gone in the Platinum and its getting expensive in there for the season
