Newcastle After Three Young Wingers – Who Would Be The Best Buy?

The Chronicle is reporting today that Rafa wants a winger signed (this week) and it seems we have gone cold on Andros Townsend, with nothing in the news about the winger who may even want to stay at Palace now that former Ajax manager Frank de Boer is the manager there.

Newcastle have scout Steve Nickson in Poland at the moment watching the Euro U-21 Championships and it seems the club are interested in two young English wingers on display – Jacob Murphy of Norwich and Leicester City winger Demarai Gray.

We are also interested in 23 year-old Welsh International Tom Lawrence who plays at Leicester City.

Quite honestly, if we signed either one of the three it would be a pretty good acquisition for Newcastle – we would get a talented young winger who Rafa could coach into a top player in the next couple of years.

Tom Lawrence of Leicester City

Demarai Gray would probably be the favorite with Newcastle fans, but he would cost up to £20M and we have a feeling that Leicester City’s Tom Lawrence, who was really good on loan at Ipswich Town last season, would be a  good buy for us.

The 23 year-old 6 times capped Welsh International had a great season and scored 11 goals at Ipswich in 36 total games for the East Anglia club.

Demarai Gray scoring for England U21 against hosts Poland

The price for the players is estimated at up to £20M for Gray, maybe £8M for Murphy – although Ipswich want closer to £12M for him – and around £8M for Lawrence.

Jacob Murphy – impressive for Norwich

Jacob Murphy has been a  player attracting interest from some top clubs, after he had a very good season at Norwich City scoring 8 goals in 37 Championship games for the Canaries last season.

So which of these three would you sign – always being aware of their value – given their estimated transfer fees.

Mahrez is likely to leave why would Leicester let either go?
Middlesbrough Traore is more likely with the relegation but it would have strange release clauses back to Barca

These 1873524 transfer links are becoming comical now. Why dont we just re sign Xisco and Kuqi and have done with it. I actually think theres more chance of Rafa walking than signing some of these players. I was full of hope a few weeks ago but now I have zero faith in Ashley backing Rafa.

Coming back to transfers I don’t know why people are suprised. Our admin history shows we are operating with people who continually (allegedly) screwed up deals for the likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier, PEA and countless others, over marginal amounts and short sightedness, while handing out 6 year contracts for the likes of Riviere etc. Until Ash finally leaves the building just can’t ever see that changing.

Generally speaking the better payers to buy are those that their current club wants to keep.Prising players away from clubs clinging on to to them ca be a lengthy process.
