Newcastle Fans Still Have Deep Mistrust Of Owner Mike Ashley

Even though there seemed to be some positive news on Mike Ashley supporting Rafa Benitez in the transfer market in the Shields Gazette this morning, there are a lot of Newcastle fans out there just not buying it.

They still see Ashley and Charnley trying to do good deals for every single transaction (transfer) and that’s exactly why we are struggling to sign players – we are busy penny-pinching again.

In fact to support that notion there’s news from Spain that Eibar are surprised Newcastle are still quarreling over small things as to how they will pay for Florian Lejeune’s release clause 0f £8.7M – and that’s one reason this specific transfer has dragged on for over two weeks.

Lee Charnley and Mike Ashley

As was have said many times before, there’s nothing wrong with trying to get good deals, but you don’t want to overdo it and hold up every deal trying to save a buck here or a buck there.

There  are still lots of fans who thinks that’s just exactly why we are not able to close any deals this summer and you can see that by looking at the tweets coming in this morning from fans.

One final thing on finances – the transfer market does not open officially for business until July 1st, when the new financial year begins, so it’s not even possible for Newcastle to complete a transfer deal this month.

You can agree deals but not sign them until July 1st – see following tweet.

There’s no problem with trying to get a good deal but if 8.7 for Lejune isn’t a good deal then he’s not good enough to be at Newcastle surely? Under 10 mill for a starting CB in today’s market has to be a relative bargain?

Love the irony of having a swear filter on this site, but then reposting a tweet with the C-Bomb in it 😀 😀

I’m happy to give the club another week to bring in players. Nobody knows what’s going on behind the scenes and as has been pointed out, the window isn’t even officially open yet. Another week won’t hurt either way.
I’m pretty confident that the record will be broken again this summer, so that’s a lot of money yet to be spent.
This is nothing unusual really. Slow start, then the deals start flowing and don’t stop until the final minute where people are still trying to get deals done.
I think we’ll see real movement this week with some happy faces outside SJP. 🙂

Exactly. I sometimes wonder why employ people to get “good deals” if they can’t recognize a good deal when it’s in front of them!

I think from now on we should refer to him as C Bomb. As nicknames go, it’s seemingly appropriate.

Presumably, Charmless is on a bonus incentive scheme. This might explain why he’s trying to drive a hard bargain – to the detriment of the club!

Worrying isn’t it, if it is Charnleys/Ashleys fault obviously but atleast with this deal it can’t be anyone else’s

Not half as worrying as ur horror photo though haha

Rafas alleged 8 players could simply be one for each position. Gk, CB, FB, DM, WG, 10, CF.
Thats 7, so the 8th would be a utility wide player covering the wide positions where only one side has been covered. Just a theory.

Make sense. 3 seasons ago, when C-bomb was slashing the wage bill down to the 17th wage bill in the PL, oddly enough, Charnley’s wages went up. Overall cuts = Pay rise for Charnley.

“Newcastle very much went against the wages growth trend in the Premier League in 2014/15 when they reduced the wage bill. Only two other clubs did the same (Manchester United and Manchester City were both 5% lower), but Newcastle’s decrease was the largest by some distance with a 17% cut.

One exception to the wages decrease was the highest paid director, presumably Lee Charnley, who saw his remuneration jump 40% from £107k to £150k.”

AncientC – I guess that seems a lot but probably a lot less than Rafa and some of the players – not many businesses where the MD earns less than the employees below him!

I love all the worry people are going through, there has been 20 total transfers so far and one of them is ours, city, Liverpool, Leicester and Watford have bought two and Brighton have bought 3 these are the only clubs to have signed more players than us and other than Brighton they have all signed ONE more player. Relax, I’m sure by or on July 1st we will have one maybe two holding the shirt smiling.

Mark, I used to keep tarantulas when I had my flat in Byker in the eighties. I had six. Mexican red knee, Mexican red rump, pink toed bird eating spider, West African Zebra, Haitian Brown and Haitian Black.
The two Haitians were aggressive and not ‘handlers’, but whereas the Mexican breeds were pussy cats and would happily crawl all over anybody.
Very relaxing to watch. I had red lights in their tanks, which apparently they can’t see, so with the room lights off they’d go into exploring mode.
The Mexican Red knee was about as big as my hand, with the pink toe, despite being a ‘bird eater’ was the smallest, but kept growing each shed of skin.
Fascinating creatures and much maligned – wrongly imo.

I’ve heard that most of the bites are pretty harmless to us (although they hurt). They had a couple at the gate in town a couple of years ago. The handlers said the worst thing about them is the hairs. they release them as a defense mechanism, and you can be blinded by them!

“People need to remember that Ashley likes to balance the books. So he will want signings to wait till July and the next financial year”

I think there’s a lot of truth in this, and Penfold will be rewarded with a bonus based on the 30th June figures.

Now whether that’s a good thing or not remains to be seen, perhaps everything is already agreed and a 1 July transfer will take place…

Or is that a pig flying above the Gallowgate?
