We’ve had a look through the tweets Newcastle are sending out to get a sense of what the fans are thinking about today.
Obviously signing some players is urgent before the preseason starts on Monday and we just hope we can sign some players before then.
Yoan Gouffran was trying to work out a deal with Newcastle a couple of weeks ago when it was announced that Vurnon Anita would be released, but no news on Yoan and whether he has agreed a deal to stay at Newcastle.
Rafa Benitez – wants to sign players now – let’s hope the manager gets his wish
There’s also news coming through that Tyrique Bartlett has received international clearance to play for Newcastle United.
The 17 year-old striker is the son of former South Africa and Charlton Athletic footballer and Shaun, and he had a good trial at Newcastle last season – so he has now signed for us and will play for Newcastle starting next season – maybe for Peter Beardsley’s U23 side.
That’s good news.
Here’s some of the tweets from Geordie fans today about what’s on their minds.
On Monday I said I was optimistic @NUFC would make their first signing this week. Two days later and nothing appears to be imminent #nufc

With talk of a take over, isn’t it plausible that Ashley would be reluctant to spend seeing as he’d never see the money again? #nufc

Comment #1I think the reason why some fans are cool on the fact that we have no new signings is the fact that nothing will happen til after 1st July. If however there is no action immediately after the 1st then i think we can safely say that there is a crisis looming once again.

Comment #6Where is this rumour coming from that states Townsend has a release clause at Palace? I have seen it mentioned quite a few times now.
Palace paid £13 million to get Townsend out of a “relegation clause,” why would Palace agree to release clause after giving him the move he wanted and increasing his wages.

Comment #8Only Mike Ashleys NUFC would wait until the next financial year before signing much needed players…forget bedding them in early and sorting out houses and schools for kids…and this boll0cks about working tirelessly behind the scenes..nothing changes , penfold is still reversing the charges to his numerous contacts accross europe and squabbling over a fiver…sign some F%%kin players now before we are left with players nobody wants…sick of it

Comment #10Thump, but Townsend didn’t even have a release clause at Newcastle, so why would Palace give him one? He has a relegation clause – completely different. The logic falls down. The question was not answered either. Where is the rumour coming from that Townsend has a release clause? I have not seen it mentioned anywhere.

It was in 1 paper in Jan and everyone jumped on it, personally I think it was a relegation clause that would of come into effect if they went down (which they looked like doing around man time)
But 100% I don’t believe he has a basic release clause for the price they paid for him

And the hands on the clock go round and round
I just wake up and it’s time to lay down,

I don’t mate sorry. Think it was a southern paper from memory, local palace one but I could be wrong if that helps?
Either way I think we’d be looking at a lot more than 13 mill to get him now

Comment #18I would imagine Townsend will fit in with the De Boer philosophy. Not only that, but Palace are in danger of losing Zaha, so if Zaha leaves, Palace will doubly want to hang onto Townsend.

Comment #19I would imagine the release clause was put in because Palace wasn’t his favourite destination. I can’t pull up any links because I tend to read and move on, but it was pretty much common knowledge he had a 13m release clause. Of course, it may have been paper talk like most things re football, but it certainly wasn’t denied. Was that not why they refused to allow the loan? We wanted to trigger his release clause this window, but they still wanted a two million loan deal, even though we agreed to buy him in the summer. Something along those lines anyway. We wouldn’t agree because they hadn’t paid for him fully.
That was the talk anyway, but football being football, who knows?
I was just curious as to why we hadn’t gone back, if Rafa was so desperate to buy him – again, if he was! Bloody press, you just don’t know wtf is going on. 🙂

Comment #21A lot of posters reassuring themselves in the hope all will change on 1st July, the manager has said he wants players in early so why are fans taking solace from 1st July?
Personally think it’s shocking that we haven’t backed the manager in his wishes again, we are already trying to play catch up after spending a season in the championship, other clubs are ahead of us whether we like it or not

Comment #22I was like everyone else get ting concerned about lack of transfers and crazy alleged target rumours. All of it doing my head in.
But I am now thinking that- being positive -if all was not well then surely Rafa would not be putting up with any nonsense – would he??.
The alternative doesnt bear considering.
Hope Ashley or Charnley not being arseholes .
Hope Robert Lee is wrong.

Comment #23I think the reason being the takeover talks. They’ll want the books balanced for our financial year. It might not suit us fans, bit it makes perfect sense for the club and any potential buyer.
Rafa did express a desire to have players in by pre season but it wasn’t a demand. Of course, this was also before the takeover came to light.
Stressing over it won’t change a thing. What happens will happen. For me it’s far too early yet to be flapping. Plenty time.
No doubt the record for signings will be broken again, yet so far that looks a long way off. That alone tells you that all signings are slow thus far. It will explode like it does every season and hopefully we’ll then get who we want.
July is only a few days away. Not going to make that much difference in the greater scheme of things. We’ve got a world class manager who’ll whip them into shape before the season begins.

Comment #28At the risk of sounding facetious I can see our starting line up for Spurs being as follows
Darlow
Yedlin Lascelles Clarke Dummett
Hayden Shelvey
Atzu Perez Ritchie
Gayle
I reckon that’s a decent starting 11 even for the Premier league.

Comment #29The bias against us in the msm is sometimes so blatant it makes you question history.
Earlier on Talksport they were discussing Scott Parker’s career. They talked about his beginnings at Charlton, then his move to Chelsea. After which, according to them, he went to West Ham.
So his career didn’t involve a successful period at Newcastle? Not one worth mentioning apparently. Do we even exist? 🙂

Comment #32Im hoping the players we get in will be players either used to playing in the system Rafa plays or are intelligent enough to slip straight in , there should be very little gelling in time as most of the players already here have got it now, hopefully we will get rd of those that dont understand or are unwilling to work in the system, so thats Diame, Mitro and Ginger Jack out the door (although Mitro and Ginger Jacjack werent lazy just incompetent)

Comment #35Giimps, do you not think it’s a bit early to give up on Mitro? He’s still very young at 22 for a striker and nowhere near the finished article. He produces the goods for Serbia so we know he has it, it just hasn’t happened for him so far at the Toon.
Personally I’d be happy to give him another season to see if he does improve.
I think he’s the sort of player who if he gets on a run, could be lethal, but that just hasn’t happened yet. Maybe it never will, but at 22 I’d be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt for another crack at it.
I do see why you might want to unload him though – it hasn’t happened for him yet – I just feel reluctant to give up on the kid yet.
