Newcastle Reported Close To Completing Double Deal

There are still no new signings this morning by Newcastle and there’s only four days to go until preseason starts at the Benton Training grounds this coming Monday.

But the news in the Chronicle today is good and it seems we are close to doing a double deal.

The Florian Lejeune deal is still being worked on (what exactly are we still working on?), but the other deal now close is to bring exciting Liverpool 20 year-old winger Sheyi Ojo to Newcastle on loan for the season.

Liverpool’s 20 year-old winger Sheyi Ojo

The news in the Chronicle on Lejeune is not unlike what it’s been for the last two weeks – that the Spanish press  are reporting the deal for Lejeune is edging closer and should be completed in the next two days.

We need to have a look to see why this deal has been held up for so long and it’s this type of dithering that could lose Newcastle a player in the future.

We must quicken up the time it takes to sign targets we really want – like Florian Lejeune.

Newcastle have opened talks with Liverpool for 20 year-old winger Sheyi Ojo on loan, but this could be similar to the Tammy Abraham deal.

It will be interesting tos ee if Rafa Benitez can get an option to buy clause in Ojo’s loan contract – but we doubt it.

Rafa wants more pace in the side for next season and Ojo can certainly give us that as an option on the wing.

The Independent is reporting today that Newcastle are the clear favorites to sign the Liverpool winger on loan, with Burnley and relegated Middlesbrough the other two clubs interested in taking the player.

We were hoping we would be closer to more permanent deals going through before MOnday, but it looks like only the Florian Lejeune deal is close.

What do you think?

This would be a good loan. Even better with an option to buy.

We should start a new list of players we are “close” to signing. It must be at about 7 or 8 now.

Harley I think even more than that! It’s the silly season yes but this season has honestly been ridiculous. I’ve never known a season like it.

But then again we are used to the club signing hardly anyone. Maybe all these links are because Rafa has scouts combing the entire of Europe – instead of just France.

Maybe just maybe all these close to signing players are a front and we have others close to signing once July arrives 😉

I have always believed that the PL money was paid
at the END of the season.
But – I recall reading (a couple of weeks ago) that at
least some of the Sky money was being paid up front.

Anyone else read that? What’s the truth?

Close is not done. And is rarely done in Newcastle’s case.
Its been worse than normal. As if someone is deliberately slowing down and delaying, and not just on the selling side either which has been bad enough.
I believe the ridiculous overpriced Benfica player has been thrown out there to say “Look what we’re against” when they have actually no interest in the player

I don’t like loans. Letting the lad make mistakes as he’s learning the ropes at our expense

……only one loan has worked in our favour if I remember. The mercenary Remy who went awol at end of season feigning injury to sort out move to Chelsea where he rarely played

Every day we get half as close to a signing as the day before which means we will always be half of that half away. For close to read dithering.
