The Independent are reporting today that Newcastle are interested in signing 20 year-old Coventry City striker George Thomas.
The youngster is out of contract at the end of the month and the report is that we are closely monitoring the situation, but that Swansea City are leading the race to sign the Wales U20 International, who was born in Leicester.
It seems that if Newcastle signed this player, he would become part of Peter Beardsley’s U23 squad.

Coventry City want around £500K compensation for the player, who has come through the Coventry Youth Academy and played 54 times in total for the first team with 9 goals.
The report is that both Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion are also interested in signing the 20 year-old.
Thomas had a really good season last term for the Sky Blues scoring 9 goals and having 2 assists in 36 total first team appearances for Coventry.
George made his debut back in January 2014 in a 2–0 League One defeat to Leyton Orient.
Rafa Benitez wants to sign some good young players for the Development squad this summer, as well as up to eight first team players for the Premier League squad.
