We didn’t expect this transfer window to be so difficult (at least so far) since Newcastle did very well in attracting new players last year with Rafa as manager and we were in the second division then.
We half expected this summer that a number of good players would want to join the Rafa revolution on Tyneside, but so far nothing like that has happened.
Of course we have to say it’s still very early in the summer and plenty of time to get our new players in.
Rafa Benitez thumbs up
So it cannot be that bad surely?
However it’s always good to get them in as soon as possible, so they can have a full preseason and be ready for the start of the Premier League season in mid August.
That’s certainly what Rafa wants, but it’s not always possible.
Another 5-1 win at home to Tottenham Hotspur on August 12th would be a good start for us
We have taken a look at some comments today from the Newcastle fans to gauge the mood on Tyneside at the moment.
We’ll all have to be a little more patient this summer – but that can be difficult in such an important window.
🙂
So #NUFC are waiting for Gouffran to respond to a contract offer. Pretty much sums up the close season so far! ?

Bournemouth have just spent £20 mill on a defender. I don’t think #nufc will spend that on any player in the next 20 years ?
— Lewi (@lewiiwhite) June 30, 2017
What’s worrying is likes of Bournemouth willing to spend the cash & #nufc still standing still
— Chris Currie (@Wig82) June 30, 2017
I’m starting to get a bit worried now #nufc

Got to admit slightly annoyed we haven’t gone in for players like Iheanacho & Ake #NUFC
— Simon Heatman (@Syheatz) June 30, 2017
I’ve said it a lot but Iheanacho for £25m would be a cracking signing. #NUFC
— Bobby Norris (@wonderbonzi) June 30, 2017
@NUFC_Index Bournemouth signing proven goal scorer and talented defender and we are sweating on a loan for a Liverpool kid on loan #NUFC
— Mike Jukes (@mike_jukes) June 30, 2017
In my opinion only 4 players from last seasons first team should be in a PL starting 11. Rafa needs backing and needs backing now! #NUFC
— Adam Jones (@headlampharry) June 30, 2017
Well I was not expecting such a frustrating window.. this isn’t going to end well but hope I’m wrong! #nufc
— David William Tasker (@DavidWilliamTa1) June 30, 2017
Are #nufc going to sign anyone this summer? No news but loads of rumours. I really wonder what Rafa has up his sleeve

I am defo in the Expat camp
spending may be necessary but having a world class coaching set up is so much more important
It’s clear that it is not just a case of Ashley being parsimonious
Rafa doesn’t like having the piss taken out of him (price wise) either

A revised plan already.
What the hell are we playing at.All the planning should have been well in place and scouting done well before the season ended.
Ake has just gone to Bournemouth for 20 mill so whether the Hierarchy like it or not, This clearly shows we have to spend and more than likely break our transfer record just to simply survive in the Pl.
We either go with the times or carry on in the same path that has led to two relegations under this Regime.
Jib
Nufc have two choices. Stay and follow the disastrous path that has led us to two relegations along with near misses. Or completely change the way in which we operate.
Yes i understand the financial restrictions that are in play, But championship clubs are spending 5-10 million on players now, Are we really not in a position to match these

Sounds like buying time for not buying anyone.
Sad state of affairs at the TOON when Bournemouth have just forked out £20 million for Ake and we haggle over a million for a £10 million player.
PATEHETIC!!!!

In all seriousness it’s a lame excuse, the season we finished 5th under pards I’m sure most of the signings were made before July including cabaye, Marv etc could be wrong though

Granted there hasn’t been many signings in the PL yet. But a lot of clubs seem to be in advanced stages of signing players, Where as we are just simply links to players.
Even the Lejuene deal could just be a fabricated lie by the chairman to bung up his value. the simple truth is we just don’t know .

That is the problem mate, It just seems the same old pathetic excuses that we have had to endure through every transfer window. Hopefully this one will be different but as yet i see no evidence of
Ake has just flown back off his holiday to secure the transfer to Bournemouth, And Keane has flown back from Dubai to start negotiations with Everton. So i agree the on holiday excuse is a load of b@llocks

Weve been close to signing lejuene for 3 weeks now. Is it smoke and mirrors? Who knows.

Comment #23I think the lejeune deal looks probable, he has a release clause that meets our low budget, their chairpersons probably want the relatively low fee paid in full so they can pay for a replacement up front.
We on the other hand want to buy now pay later to maximize the relatively low budget we are playing with to keep the bank balance healthy for the new investors/ owners, at least until the end of the business year/ start of the new business year (tomorrow).
All the rest of the links are imho, click bait and journals wet dreams, made up and designed to sell papers …..probably fed by agents wanting a fee since they can normally only make money twice a year.

The only time Pardew got decent? players in June was 2011
Yohan Cabaye,Demba Ba,Sylvain Marveaux,Mehdi Abeid
They were all Graham Carr signings arranged well in advance
Other than that year, Pardew/Carr signings were always late July /August

On topic 20mill for Ake is obscene but its the market people complain about Chelsea’s player farm but its made them 36+ mill already this summer wish we had their ‘failed’ academy…also for those who complain about loaning players Ake was on loan at Bournemouth last season and now hes there permanently
My main worry this summer is NUFC refuse to acknowledge the market and like it or not 20mill an Ake like player isnt an exception Ashley has to realize that

I hope this doesn’t come as too much of a shock to you .
A lot of players pay agents a percentage commission out of their wages monthly.
That’s on top of the percentages agents make on transfer fees.
Why do you think agents get so involved in wages negotiations ?

This has been my debate all along mate regarding Ashley.
I totally agree that Ashley has to acknowledge the sign of the times regarding transfer fees, otherwise we will be simple relegation fodder.. Which none of us want.

Yeah thats what worries me though our record transfer is still Owen and thats some time ago and he happily had us go through 3 windows without signing a player permanently. We have to react to the market not ignore it something we’ve pretty much refused to do under Ashley
As for my name tbh I thought Id changed it back last night but turns out I hadnt changed the drop down box…back to my original self once more though

Comment #39If or when we make a signing I bet it will be either that defender we’ve been chasing for weeks. Or it will b a keeper. Meaning we couldn’t care less and we’ll still feel like there’s not been any real thought put into strengthening the team. Getting really peeved off now like. If nothing happens by time we play our first away game in Europe. Not including Ireland. I wouldn’t blame rafa for walking. He’s achieved what he set out 2 to do. Told his management what he needs for the upcoming season. If he don’t get. He will walk. And walk into a job that will back him 100 per cent.
