Report – Rafa Benitez Getting Serious About Leaving Newcastle Before Start Of Season

The Sun is reporting today that Rafa Benitez is now getting serious about walking away from Newcastle because of very little progress being made in the transfer market.

It looks like the very best we can do before training starts on Monday morning is to bring in one new player  Florian Lejeune – who the club have been trying to sign for weeks and latest reports have said we are still trying to negotiate how to pay the £8.7M fee- with Newcastle wanting to pay in two installments.

The Sun’s report by Neil Ashton says that Rafa Benitez is prepared to leave Newcastle before the season starts because he is so frustrated about the level of transfers and the fact that we have missed out on nearly all of our targets so far this summer.

Rafa Benitez – serious about walking out

Rafa is reported to be concerned that unless major improvements are made to the squad, then Newcastle could well be in another relegation fight in the coming season – something that nobody associated with the wants to happen.

We’d be surprised if Rafa walks out and we have to be aware of scaremongering in the national press, but he has done this before when things that were promised are not done and he is still very wary of Mike Ashley and what the owner’s real ambitions are for Newcastle.

Of course if Rafa walks then Newcastle are in huge trouble again and fans will never forgive owner Mike Ashley four screwing up once again when everything looked so rosy for the club.

We hope this report is not accurate and the Chronicle are reporting their Newcastle sources have dismissed the claims made by the Sun that Rafa Benitez is ready to leave Newcastle.

But the news is lingering that Rafa is not happy and we haven’t yet seen a breakthrough in the transfer market.

We have to hope that the new revised transfer plan, where priority targets have been identified, will bear some fruit and we’ll see some players coming through the door over the next week or two.

The other thing that may happen is on Monday or Tuesday when Rafa is interviewed hopefully he will put to bed these rumors – Newcastle have a great future – we just have to be a lot more aggressive to sign our transfer targets.

Comments welcome.

Why bother with this post? no source? come back to us when you have a source or some quotes from Rafa. We’re all sick of reading this hysteria stuff. A nufc blog should know better.

I won’t start the blame game as far as signings are concerned.
As soon as you make an offer for a player you kick off a double auction. With the owning club and the player re wages.
It’s a jungle with no loyalty involved. FFP is a joke essentially.
We seem to have to pay a premium for a player simply because we are in the North. Look at the demise of most Northern clubs.
Our only hope would be a rich benefactor, but I’m not sure football should come down to that.
After 45 years I’m loosing interest in it to be honest. It’s all a money driven mania.

Missed the bus first post. Again

At the end of the season I warned on here that this season was going to be a tough one. We’re behind the rest because they’ve all got last seasons money to spend. Because the money went up, so have prices, which makes it even harder.
This coming season is about establishing ourselves as a PL side and talk of top six or eight finish was deluded. Every side coming up struggles and we have no right to be different.
Big crowds been nothing anymore financially. The real money comes from Sky. The crowd might buy us one player, not much more.
The reality is if Ashley is selling, he’s not going to put any more money in. Forget it. You don’t put twenty pound notes in a jacket pocket then sell it for a tenner.
Ashley needs to go, so let’s hope he does sell up, but either way this is going to be tough work.
Rafa knows what’s happening and he’ll know if the sale is likely. He understands finances as well. He himself hasn’t threatened to walk and it’s unlikely.
Fans wanted Ashley out out any costs and this might be the cost. If anybody thinks Ashley is going to pile money into the club whilst selling it is crazy. Why would he? Would you? No.
So, this is more reason that whatever happens, the fans need to be behind Rafa and whatever team he manages to put together. We’re in for a rough ride this coming season by the look of it, but we’re been here before many times. What we do have is a world class manager and the best fans in the world – and a team of lads willing to run through walls for the gaffer.
If that’s what we’ve got, we’ve got to make the most of it.

Mate haway just chill out, the whole point is to report all news, stories and rumours nufc related doesnt mean to say everything has to be straight from the horses mouth. All of the players we’ve been linked with have no source or have come from rafas mouth so should they just not bother posting them either

bobby that’s a fair point but we shouldn’t be behind brighton and huddersfield and that’s what a lot on here are focusing on
as you say the sky money gives the other 17 clubs a massive advantage but we should still be up there with brighton and huddersfield and at this moment in time we are not

Irish – why are you jumping on Ed? He keeps tabs on all things NUFC in the media and then makes a post about the different trending topics for all this blog’s guests to read. It’s not like he is making up an article. He is just saying that there is a new article in the Sun, what it says and then gives his take on it. He then posts and let’s us have a discussion about it. If you want to jump on someone, jump on the Sun who published the tripe story without any sources.

While I’m in the mood for a rant I will continue on that theme.
Don’t just look at the demise of the Northern football clubs, look at the demise of the North in general.
Many years ago our friends from down the road were known as the Bank of England club.
At that time wealth in this country was closely associated with Coal, Steel and Ship Building. In affect industry.
Now it’s all about new money coming into England controlled by folks who want to live in the South East. I’ve worked down there the last couple of years at times. Fairly modest homes are worth 2 million.
It’s all about our sheikh is richer than your Oligarch. Is that what we have come to. It’s pathetic.
Manchester with the Man U fan base and the money into City from the UAE just about breaks that stranglehold.
    Rant over.

Lord Hibbett, not sure we are behind them mate. Who’ve they bought like? Mooy was there last season and he’s their record buy. We were ahead of them before the start and we will spend money. There is some money to spend and players will come in, just maybe not what we hoped for.
The point is, if he’s selling he simply won’t pour money into it and in all seriousness you can’t blame him. Rafa can have every penny, but no more apparently. Fair enough, he’s going to have to make do, but if it means losing Ashley and a new owner coming in, isn’t that what everybody wanted?
Just as we won’t be top six, neither will we be bottom three either. Just another tough season in the PL.

We should’ve kept Mbabu. He’s better than Dummett and would’ve been a good number 2. Resign Santon.
I think we should sign the following:

    Sebastian Corchia – £6m
    Santon – £3m
    Zouma – Loan
    Abdennour – £10m
    Ben Arfa – Loan
    Markovic – Loan
    Willy Carvalho – £20m
    Shaqiri – £11m
    Townsend – £12m
    Jay Rodriguez – £10m
    Aboukhar – £10m

    Sell –

    Colback – £4m
    Dummett – £7m
    Haidara – £2m
    Lascelles – £15m
    Hanley – £5m
    Perez – £15m
    Murphy – £2m

    Net spent – £38m

Have to say this all strikes me as very strange. Why go to the bother of pretending there is money available for players? Why the lengthy negotiations to get one player, Lejeune over minor details? The risk is the same as it always has been, which is another relegation. We’re not strong enough or deep enough to compete well in the Prem as it stands. Even if Ashley is selling nobody will want to take over a club that is struggling right out of the gate and has the best manager since Robson walk away. Ashley must be well and truly mentally ill to do this again.

Good to see you on here Ketsy with your truly mad player dealings. Sell Lascelles, one of our best players and bring back Santon? And why would Benny come back to us? Shaquiri would definitely cost more than 11M. Perez is not worth 15M. If he had a very decent season with us possibly next summer.

I was expecting another busy day of bollocks from the Amazing Ash and that’s exactly what we’ve got. It’s so good to have a dependable pinhead as owner of the club isn’t it? Yes that’s right Mikey, piss off the only decent manager in the last dozen years or more and then try to sell a team that will struggle from the get go.

Hibbett, Rafa knows football mate. If the there’s a sale in the air he knows the score. He can’t affect that, but he’ll fully understand the consequences. I just can’t see him walking. He got what he asked for – every penny. Prices have gone stupid but that’s life with so much greed in the game. He’ll know if Ashley sells chances are he’ll get big bucks to help catch up in January.
You know yourself, if you’re moving house, you’ll not put a new bathroom suite in the old one just before selling.
As much as there’s that rubbish in the Sun, there’s alternative news in the Chronicle that he’s going nowhere. Who do you believe? 🙂 If Ashley is selling – and we know it’s possible – Rafa will just have to alter plans. I doubt he’ll walk, when new owners might offer him the earth.
Selling has come at just the wrong moment – typical Newcastle – but let’s hope it gets sorted sooner rather than later.

Huddersfield started out with nothing and they still have most of it left.
We have way less than nothing. Debts from previous attempts to compete at this level.
About 4 or 5 players on high wages we can’t shift.
Hudders will make 100 million from this season plus parachute payments if they go down.
If they do go down it won’t be tragic for them, with the support levels they have.
    Likewise Bournemouth, Burnley, Stoke etc.
They have a business model based on survival in the big league.
As Bobby said they don’t need big gates as it is all now about TV money.

Lord Hibbett Sir, I have zero confidence in Ashley! 🙂 My confidence lies in Rafa and his knowledge of football. He’ll know more than us about this sale, being the club manager. Having been promised every penny and accepted it, I can’t see him going back on his end of the deal. Despite it clearly being worth less than originally hoped for, due to prices going crazy.
I think the fact that Rafa hasn’t kicked off maybe indicates a sale is likely. He’s got what he wanted from Ashley and maybe accepts that those negotiations are closed now and further ones will have to be with the new owners – when it happens. Right now, I see finances as being a closed subject whilst the sale/negotiations go through.
It would help if somebody told us what was happening, but business being business I imagine silence is part of the deal. All this makes me think the sale is a distinct possibility.
Clearly, this sale couldn’t have come at a worse time. The Chinese might have demanded no more loans to the club until they take over, we simply don’t know. But if it means Ashley leaving, then surely that’s good?
That would also explain the new transfer plans being Thrashed out. January might be busy, who knows?

The Sun’s report is unsettling but no matter what, they’ve found the grounds to put two and two together and stimulate speculation about Rafa’s future with NUFC. The lack of transfer activity has given the press grounds to manufacture a story and quite simply, the situation should have been.managed better by the Club.

Ashley’s promise to Rafa was that he could have the funds derived from promotion (not a lot) and player sales (unknowns). If Rafa’s not been given specific guarantees about funding such as getting the Prem parachute payment and the surplus from last summer’s player sales, he’s been screwed over by Ashley.

I hope I’m way off track but Ashley was very quick with his commitment to Rafa’s transfer pot and the items he guaranteed.

Ed why do you even bother printing such rubbish unless of course you want a job at that world renowned news paper the Sun I would not even believe the date in the Sun but even quoting the Shields Gazette is dangerous. I will believe that Rafa is walking out when he goes to the Central Station suitcase in hand and tear in eye. He has not said he is going it it is always a Source stated or a well placed tea lady stated Rafa has a dirty tea cup and he would have it clean if he wanted more tea so he must be going.. Unless a story names it source you know it is false news otherwise if ever it was proven to be an untrue statement they would be sued. Ask the Private Eye they name names and get sued. It is the same with transfers newspapers cannot be issued with blank columns so they fill it with the brown stuff to wind you up and guess what they succeed every time. Wait until tomorrow when footballers do really sign contracts not pre contracts which can still be broken. As far as filling this forum with who you would and who you would not sign – sorry means nowt except inflating your own ego what influence do you think you bare on any club taking notice of what you write.

Sorry to destroy the myths. Yes we have been disappointed many times by Ash doing what only Ash would do but sorry it is his money his club he can do what he likes with his toy. If you do not like it do not buy the product.
