Newcastle Now Reported In The Lead To Sign 26 Year-Old International Striker

Sky Sports are reporting that Newcastle are interested in signing 26 year-old DR Congo’s Villarreal forward Cedric Bakambu.

The forward has been at Villarreal for a couple of seasons since signing on for the Spanish club from Turkish club Bursaspor back in 2015 and he has performed well for Rafa’s former club with 33 goals and 6 assists in 84 total appearances.

We were first linked with this player when he was still at Sochaux back in the summer of 2014, before he signed on at Bursaspor and we’ve been linked a few times this summer with the forward.

26 year-old Villarreal forward Cedric Bakambu

The player was born in the suburbs of Paris and we think this player would be an excellent signing for us if we can get him through the door.

West Ham United are also said to be after the player and of course maybe an advantage for Newcastle is that he is a team-mate of Newcastle’s Chancel Mbemba for DR Congo.

While at Sochaux for four seasons he scored 21 goals in 107 total appearances and just over three weeks ago when we were linked with Bakambu this summer, Villarreal wanted a massive £15M for the player.

So as usual, we’re not sure if Newcastle will pay that much for a striker this summer – however good he may be – but we are supposed to be in the lead to sign the 13 times capped DR Congo International (5 goals).

We need to make some good signings fairly quickly and maybe the Magpies can get this player over the line soon ……

Hope so.

What do you think?

A lot of praise for Hayden, not sure why. He did well in the championship but no one knows how he’d do in the PL

Salmon, said it when we won the league mate, talk of top six or eight was delusional talk.
Clubs nowadays don’t go from Championship to challenging in one season. Regardless what money is or isn’t available, next season will be about establishing ourselves. The following season we’ll have equal money to spend and can push on.
We had enough meltdowns and we won the bloody league, it’s going to be a nightmare when we’re losing more than winning.

Really, where are these rumours that Rafa’s already walked from then?

I think the praise for Hayden was pretty well justified. He did well. Of course, you can’t judge fairly how he’ll do this season, but all he could do was perform to the best of his ability against the competition in front of him.
Still a young lad and already improved under Rafa, I can’t see him going backwards this season. Needs competition to push him though and for him to learn from. Fernando might be able to drum up some lessons for him. (I’ll get me coat).

    Lower our expectations indeed.

I’m expecting us to be Champions, FA cup winners, League Cup winners, top scorers, best defence and Rafa to be Manager of season, is that too much to ask for?

Come on Reilly, you can’t pop in with ‘rumours Rafa has already walked doing the rounds’ without elaborating on them matey. That is kinda important to everyone on here. Where are the rumours spreading and where have they come from?
The window has shut yet ffs, why would he walk from something he can fix? Or do you know more? I’m all ears mate.

So Bill in bloody Essex, it’s YOU giving us this name as delusional Geordies is it? 🙂 Are you one of these ‘unnamed sources’ they like to throw around?
I get it. Nip up the road to Fleet Street (I know…) and give them these pieces of info and prove how deluded we are. Might have to introduce you to G2’s honeybadgers for a telling off. 😉

Yeah got me worried for a moment 😀

It’s a strange one really, hiring Rafa is not only a great PR coup and has truly snatched Mike and his team out of the fire, however it has also strapped them to a nuke. For whatever reason, if Benitez goes at any time this season, it will be highly unlikely he will get any proportion of the blame, even if it follows a disastrous run of results.

All eyes would turn on Ashley and Co., Right or wrong, and it would seem almost impossible to pull themselves out of the huge crater that event would create.

This means at present there must be an uneasy entente at the heart of NUFC these days, a cat & mouse game of confidence and bargaining, a pitting of wits and drawing of lines. Inevitably the question will be how much does Mike Ashley want to be dictated to by the very situation that pulled him out of his own disaster a year ago?

How far can Rafa push Ashley before he decides his ego must come before the support of the fan base once again? We will get our answers soon enough I think.
