Burnley striker Andre Gray has been talking to his club about a new deal and the talks seem to have stalled and it’s because the player, who turned 26 last Monday, wants £70K/week wages.
Andre has been one of our targets all summer long and if we could only get him to Newcastle then we think Rafa Benitez could bring out the best in the player.
So it now depends on whether Newcastle can offer the player a decent wage and at least close to the £70K/week he’s asking for.
26 year-old Burnley striker Andre Gray
The Chronicle is reporting that Newcastle could now make their move for the former Luton Town and Brentford striker – it certainly seems a good time to do just that.
Newcastle have to show to their fans they are not the same club of a few years back, when we bartered for every single saving on transfers and took a long time to close any deal and it all looked so very difficult.
The same thing seems to be happening this summer, but things have changed a lot in the transfer market and we have to show our ambition to be a top team again and pay out the big bucks to get some top players in.
Andre has had two very good seasons for Burnley and scored 23 goals in 42 games in winning the Championship the season before last and he scored 10 goals in 36 games in the season just ended, with 9 of those goals coming in 32 games in the Premier League.
Rafa Benitez is trying to get some additional speed into the team this summer and Andre has that and he is also an accomplished technical player too.
With things at an impasse with his contract talks at Burnley, surely now is a good time for Newcastle to step in and sign this player quickly.
That’s the real opportunity for Newcastle with Andre Gray – and it can help show Newcastle can be decisive in signing their targets.
What do you think?

Comment #4I never knew he was our top target tho, I thought that was Semedo. Or was it Reina. Nah it was defo Abdennour. Then again it might have been his partner in crime Mangala

Don’t mention Relegation on here pal. Were all upbeat today for the imminent arrivals. Advanced signings. Players flying in as we speak

Comment #10Ed an overly optimistic misleading headline mate.
We need signings like this now but there is nothing at all saying we will make a move for Gray or any other signing for that matter just more bullsh*t rumours. So sick of out lack of action. There are some very good deals to be had out there yet we seem uninterested in all of them.

Comment #12Could be worse lads….I mean we could be unwashed Mackems. I trust Rafa fully to bring in some quality very soon. He’d have walked by now if he wasnt going to get the backing he wants. Im clueless to who hes even after though, its anyones guess. Got to love abit of mystery and all that. I do think we should go all out to sign Batshuayi though, exactly what we need up top to partner little Dwight

Comment #14Once again Newcastle POISED we appear to be in this position every day it is no good saying we trust Rafa to bring in top quality players it is Charnley that does the negotiating and he is an accountant not a football intelligent speculator. Raf may say he would like this player or that player then it is up to Charnley who has proved over and over that he is incompetent in this role to bring the player across the line. Can you imagine him choking on his cornflakes when he heard that Gray wants £70k a week, no chance. Now if we can get someone that no one had heard of but he will cost less than £4M and wants between £5 and £10 k per week now we are talking after all relegation is not that bad we have done it twice in the last 10 years we can do it again after all we are missing the Derby matches if we stay up with the Southern lot of PL teams.

Comment #15If Charnley had the final say in everything, Rafa wouldnt have stayed. Theres clubs like Palace, Chelsea, Burnley etc who havnt signed anyone at all, weve brought in Atsu for absolute peanuts. Its all good being ridiculously negative but its only July 1st. If we hadnt been linked to so many pointless players would we be questioning the activity so far….Probably not. Rafa wants prem quality players, not just anybody like weve rushed into buying in the past. IN RAFA I TRUST.

Comment #20That’s right Boom Toon you can sign from June 9th so perhaps we should be a little concerned. 15 EPL clubs have signed 28 players between them up until today Why have we only signed 1 and he was already with us last season. I know a lot of stories are made up by journalist but those figures are on the EPL site

Comment #21@ Boom Toon When does the transfer window open?
The big transfer free-for-all begins when the window is cranked open on July 1. You can mark this in your diaries every year as it never changes. This is the day moves will go through, clubs can agree contracts and fees in advance of that date.
When does the transfer window close?
After two complete months of wheeling and dealing the money will stop revolving around the footballing world at 11:00pm on August 31, which is a Thursday.

Weve signed as many players as Man United (£40m for an unproven Defender from that poor Portugese league weve been saying isnt the best standard), Chelsea ( Caballero – Free agent) and Arsenal (Kolasinac – Free agent), Stoke ( Darren Fletcher – Free agent ), Southampton ( Unheard of Polish defender signed Today ), Swansea ( Free agent keeper from Heerenveen ), West Ham ( Zabaleta – Free agent ). 1 more player than Palace and Burnley who havnt signed a single player and most of the other clubs have gone for free agents and players that had connections to their clubs last season like us with Atsu. Atleast weve actually paid cash for a player. Were 6 weeks away from the start of the season, theres plenty of time or us to bring in players. Slow and steady wins the race as they say. No need to be concerned at all yet, we have no idea who or what the club are in talks with.

Comment #28I think we should all calm down a little bit. I too am a little sceptical given our seemingly constant failure to sign any notable quality in recent years. Having said that, I just can’t see Mike very publicly promising Rafa the earth just to let him walk for not giving it him. He knows that would be the end for him and us. Only so much any fan can take until they become resentful. If relegated as a result, we’d struggle to bounce back Under those circumstances and Mike knows it. The Vast fortune he has tied up in the club would evaporte. Hes many things, mostly bad, but Mike knows money. Reading between the lines, I get the feeling We are waiting for a few key deals to go through at some of the big clubs which in turn will free up squad players for a move in the hope gain playing time and recindling their career. Most clubs won’t sell until a replacement is found and those that will…. the player wants to hang around and see what develops before making a decision. All we can do is make out interest known and wait for things to develop. I’m sure we’ll get some decent quality in our team come the end of august. (PLEASE?), I might be miles off. If history is anything to go buy beneitez adopts a horses for courses type attitude to recruitment which is what led me to this conclusion. I mean, if you were Sean Dych would you sanction the transfer of such a potent player without lining up his replacment?? Didn’t think so…. All this said if we’re still struggling to do deals in early august I’ll start to worry. Viva la rafalution!!!
