These Are Things On The Minds Of Newcastle Fans Today

This is the first day Newcastle can officially sign players in this summer’s transfer window, with the new financial year starting today – 1st July.

Deals have been possible for several weeks now, but they cannot be made official until today.

Hopefully we can sign Florian Lejeune before Monday so we suppose the next news on that is he’s on his way to Newcastle for a medical – but that has not been reported yet.

Newcastle fans have complete faith in Rafa Benitez

Here’s some of the things on Newcastle fans’ minds today and we’ve put in some comical ones as well – always good for a light-hearted laugh every morning.

🙂

And of course you always get a good laugh from some Newcastle fans.

The strip looks great on Jack – but he needs some boots – sign him up!

Sunderland announce latest signing.

First day of the window and no Andy Carroll talk, must be a done deal!

I also liked the link to Lewis Holtby. When we were relegated it was largely down to a weak midfield which we have not really strengthened.

Definitely happy with keeping Hayden in the side to play frequently. I hope we can develop a strategy of playing that does not rely on Shelvey as a deep lying playmaker, collecting the ball from the central defenders and also in attacking midfield. He lacks the physique or the concentrated ability to at his best throughout the season, in every match. We were definitely really poor without him and the intensity is different.

Id give Hayden a chance , see how he copes, he,s got bags of potential. Regarding transfer, i think a lot of fans are expecting a surge of activity saying as its 1st July, but i think if we had genuine bids for targets , they would of been sorted by now. I think its going to be a very frustrating and disappointing window.

Aye people worked out how to stop Shelvey by the end of last season but it was broken up season with the racism charge which hurt him imo. I think a shift to 3 at the back or pace on the wings will help his game a lot though

I’m starting to wonder if MA is the guy that wants to be the star. If so, Rafa was a brilliant recruitment, but now is taking the spotlight off MA. If MA lets Rafa go or Rafa walks out, MA is back in the spotlight and then again when he brings in a new manager. He can do that until there is relegation (in spotlight again) and instant promotion (spotlight time) until the money runs out.

Ashley can hide behind his fixer or Charnley, both are expendable and fans will lap up the excuse if rafa walks. Remember Ashley has apparently taken a backseat……bollocks has he!!

I don’t think it was a case of teams learning how to play against Shelvey, it was just a spell of poor form. His usual deadly passing wasn’t quite reaching its target.

With Shelvey’s range of passing, he is playing in his correct position. Shelvey playing from deep makes him extremely difficult to mark for the opposition, which in turn creates the space/distance for Shelvey to spray balls around. If you move Shelvey forward, say into number 10, he can be marked a lot easier, plus he doesn’t have the space or angles to play his characteristic through balls.

In so many of the matches at the end of the season, we needed Shelvey to play higher in a 4141 formation to break teams down. Rafa shoulld have tried Mbembia, but we definitely need a defensive midfielder now.

Remember when people were theorising that players had already agreed to join, and the club was just waiting until July 1st for them to sign on the dotted line. Oh dear.

Aye not wrong though I think it was a culmination of things teams worked out we only attack down the right so could ignore our left and focus on Shelvey/Ritchie, we lost Gayle so he had no pace to work with meaning he kept the ball longer and we lost Hayden who would take pressure off Shelvey as he was comfortable holding on to the ball

What happened to Newcastle paying transfer fees upfront? Why, all of a sudden, have we decided to try the installment pay plan? I could understand if we were trying to sign a £25M+ player but trying it on with a player for less than £9M is taking the pi$$! So much for “every penny will be made available, after running costs have been deducted”, either the running costs were astronomical or the fat fcuk has decided to reclaim some of his loan. Either way, I think he was being literal when he said penny and not pounds

I was going to say that it would be good if the club had actually struck one of the 17 or so transfers that have happened so far. But then I realised Atsu was us and to be 1 of the 17 deals that have so far taken place is above average in a league of 20.

I dont think starting a player out of position at the pivotal part of the season was ever going to happen. We are certainly after a CDM though we have been since Jan hopefully to compliment Hayden because hes going to be a quality player for us long term

“”But enough of that: the transfer window has officially been open for three weeks, but as aficionados know it is on 1 July, after all those contracts that expire on 30 June have expired, that the wheeling and dealing really gets into full swing. And, amid the decadence of late capitalism, with recent falling viewing figures leading some to theorise that younger generations can no longer endure a full 90 minutes of actual football, it is trading far more than any naive ideal of sporting prowess that really gets social media humming.””

    LOL!!!

Just going on Rumours he had bud.
The only reason I can fathom on why we offered him a one year contract is because the tea lady retired after decades of being a loyal servant to Nufc.
So maybe there giving him a trial run.. Who knows pal!!

I haven’t got a problem with retaining Gouffran for a year as a squad player. He can come in and graft, do a job filling in, has done so plenty of times. Not a first choice of course, but you need fillers too!

Ah right nothing official? Haha maybe we do need a new tea lady
Surely even with his limited quality he can get better than a 1 year deal though, someone in France must be willing to give him a 3 year hes only 31 isnt he?

Wonder how much the blatantly exorbitant agent fees are going to effect any potential signings during the window. It’s one area which seems to have risen to ridiculous amounts, possibly being the main reason behind most British players costing x% more than Euro equivalents.

Priorities have to be LB, RB, CM, LW, CAM, ST.

We should sign Tierney from Celtic for 15-20m. Manure sniffing around now though. Robertson for 5-10m would be a good deal if not.

Will be on edge until those first few signings come in to be honest!
