Another one of our many targets this summer seems to be 22 year-old defender/midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah of Chelsea.
Chalobah is yet another of Chelsea’s many young stars who is getting itchy feet and wants to the leave the Blues so he can get first team football elsewhere.
Over the last five years the player has had six loan moves to various clubs including a season loan last season to one of Rafa’s former clubs – Napoli.
22 year-old Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah
He’s been on loan at Watford, Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough, Burnley, Reading and Napoli and he’s played 121 first team games so far in his career including 15 games for the Chelsea first team.
He’s played for all the England youth sides and 40 times for the England U21 side and was a member of the England squad who reached the semifinals of last month’s European Under-21 Championship in Poland and lost 4-3 on penalties to …. well Germany again.
This lad looks like a top young player in the making who has already had lots of experiences playing first team football.
Swansea, West Ham, Leicester and Watford are the other Premier League clubs looking to sign the player this summer, with rumours Chelsea are now willing to sell Chalobah.
The 6ft 1ins tall player was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone and initially joined Fulham before moving to Chelsea back in 2005 when he was just 10 years old.
He seems just the kind of young, accomplished technical player that Rafa wants to sign for Newcastle and he would hopefully come at a reasonable fee.
Maybe he’s one of the players local reports say we have bid for and are now waiting for a response to that bid.
Hope so.
What do you think?

Comment #42Like I said Yesterday. Weve signed as many players as Man United (£40m for an unproven Defender from that poor Portugese league weve been saying isnt the best standard), Chelsea ( Caballero – Free agent), Arsenal (Kolasinac – Free agent), Stoke ( Darren Fletcher – Free agent ), Southampton ( Unheard of Polish defender signed Today ), Swansea ( Free agent keeper from Heerenveen ), West Ham ( Zabaleta – Free agent ). 1 more player than Palace and Burnley who havnt signed a single player and some of the other clubs have gone for free agents and players that had connections to their clubs last season like us with Atsu. Atleast weve actually paid cash for a player. We’re 6 weeks away from the start of the season, theres plenty of time or us to bring in players. Slow and steady wins the race as they say. Personally dont see any need to be concerned at all yet, we have no idea who or what the club are in talks with really do we. Being linked to so many pointless players in the media that we are never interested in has just got fans expecting us to be signing loads of players straight away but i’d rather us take time to bring in the right players than rush into signing 99% of the rubbish weve been linked with so far. Maybe being patient in the transfer window is a good thing for the youth also, maybe Rafa will have a good close look at players like Arma, Woodman, Yasin Ben El-Mhanni and make the right decisions around them aswell. I’d be very happy if we brought in just these 4 players – Lejuene, Gibbs, Acquah and Batshuayi. Chuck Townsend in there and I think we’d have a very strong squad.

Comment #45A problem fat ash must deal with is the cost difference between players with potential for the Championship to players with potential for the PL.
He loves a profit, but this season it appears a lot of clubs have lots of money so we are well down the pecking order. Plus just my opinion but if Ash does not make a statement of intent by signing a big player- it isn’t going to encourage other similar players into wanting to come.
Unless there is something happening in the background…..

It’s a worry that I think we all have. I know the press keep saying Rafa won’t walk and I hope they are right. He is not Keegan but to quote KK ” Newcastle will never achieve anything whilst Ashley is there”.
Just hope we are wrong and Ash has sanctioned ‘acceptable signings

Forget about what the top 10 are doing regarding transfers mate. We ain’t gonna be competing with them this season.
Let’s only focus on what the bottom half are doing because that’s where we’re gonna be.
Swansea are in advanced negotiations with another 2 players and I think have flown over for tommoz, Both at 11 mill.Brighton and Huddersfield are both strengthening and as of yet have nothing even close to being of any truth behind a link.
Hopefully this will change within the coming weeks and I’m sure it’s got to otherwise Rafa won’t be here come the start of the campaign

There is always going to be that doubt in everyone’s mind whilst the fat slug is at the helm.
I think he’s still having some sort of input despite saying Rafa has control and can have every penny the club generates.

That’s the trouble mate, It’s exactly what Wws and I was on about earlier.
60-70-80 k a week now is probably just a sign of the times. And unless we go down the cheap import route again we gotta move with times

That’s the problem. We all know we’re going to have to pay the going rate to secure certain players (which has changed dramatically since the new tv money). But does fatash know that. I don’t think he does.

Comment #5880k for someone whose 27, played 100+ times for Arsenal and has 10 England caps while the league is drowning in money not unreasonable is it especially if hes available for 8ish mill? Tbh I dont think it is over inflated either its just a reaction to how much money there is to go around…PL teams are charged more because they have far more than everyone else

Comment #59It’s simple now. We know it ,Rafa knows it,And I believe Ash knows that he’s gotta pay the money to guarantee Pl survival and bring in some Quality.
Or it’s back where we have just come from.
Rafa has got to have been given some assurance of what the transfer plan is for Nufc. So this what I’m clinging on to in the hope our policies are going to change this summer.

Comment #69I’ve had to deal with the box office via email and they were pretty good, I got everything I asked for, took three days and that was before the season tickets were on general sale so may take a little longer with the increased workload.
I would wait till Tuesday and if you’ve not heard from them email again.

Asks if Lejaune is any good, why hasn’t any other team shown an interest in him.
The answer is that our negotiations supremo, Charmless Charnley, said “I baggs Lejaune” some time ago, before anyone else had a chance to ‘baggs’ the guy.
The problem since then has been to scrape together enough cash, vouchers, bottle tops, or whatever else Ashley uses these days, to complete the deal.
But the way it works is that any player already ‘baggsed’ can’t be approached by another club until the ‘baggser’ officially pulls out.

Something very dodgy going on there if Neves goes he could play top 6 PL but he goes to bottom half Wolves?
The other Portugese winger they dropped 12 or so mill on? Can’t recall his name but he’s another that could play higher…there something amiss imo…they got an agent in their pocket?

Comment #78Shirebrook, if they’ve received your application you’ve nothing to worry about mate. They’re dealing with over forty K tickets mate and ST generally don’t arrive until pretty close to the season start anyway.
Plenty time for signings yet. Everyone at the Toon will be fully aware about prices by now and they’ll be working towards finding solutions.
No doubt the record for signings will be smashed again this season and comparatively nowt been spent yet.
Signings always reminds me of those cycle races on the boards. Clubs take ages buffering for position, going at a snails pace, then suddenly somebody makes a move and all hell breaks loose. Every season is generally the same. It’s not ideal, but with the money floating around in the PL it’s always going to be a struggle. I’m nowhere near getting worried yet. I’d rather Rafa gets players he wants than just buy anybody to appease the masses.
Right now, we don’t know who he has in mind, despite a million links to every player on the planet. These things simply won’t be rushed.
We haven’t got a bottomless pit of money, even so called smaller clubs have more to spend so they need to get the right men at the right price. It won’t be easy, but that’s life.

Comment #79I would guess Joe Hart on loan to NUFC would appeal to Pep Guardiola.
A season under the tutelage of Rafa and plenty of game time could be just what the England goalie needs.
Maybe Rafa’s social night out in May with Ferran Soriano involved more than just discussing
Eliaquim Mangala and Yaya Touré ?
