Everton FC seems to be going crazy in the transfer market this summer and there is news today in the Portuguese media from A Bola that the Toffees have had a bid of €16M (£14M) rejected by Benfica for 28 year-old Newcastle central midfield target Andres Samaris.
The offer was turned down.
The Toffees have spent around £85M this summer including paying out £25M yesterday with £6M potential add-ons for Burnley center-back Michael Keane
Michael Keane became Ronald Koeman’s sixth summer signing after Spanish U21 striker Sandro Ramirez had also joined from Malaga for £5.3M earlier yesterday – another player we had been linked with earlier this year.
28 year-old midfield target Andres Samaris – Everton have bid for him
Other players signed by Koeman include former Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for an initial £25M, midfielder Davy Klaassen for £4MM, forward Henry Onyekuru for £7M.
Andreas Samaris has been linked strongly with Newcastle this summer and it looks like he will be allowed to leave Benfica after joining them three years ago from Olympiacos for £8.8M.
A week ago O Jogo were reporting Newcastle and Benfica were still trying to negotiate a fee for Samaris and say Newcastle offered €15M (around £13M) for the 28 times capped Greek International with Benfica turning down the offer.
They report Benfica still want the full €20M for their player – which is around the £17.6M – more than what Everton are said to have bid.
But if we now have an auction between the two Premier League clubs for Samaris that would not be good for Newcastle.
And with Everton trying to move in to hijack any deal with Newcastle, that should ask the question of the Magpies how high a priority is is Andreas Samaris as a transfer target this summer?
Newcastle could even move to cheaper alternatives and we could pay the price for showing indecision again, much like we bartered for weeks before we agreed the deal to sign Florian Lejeune from Eibar.
Fans are expecting more signings at the moment since it was learned that Managing Director Lee Charnley had told the Fans Forum a week ago that signings would be announced soon by Newcastle.
That started with long term target Florian Lejeune coming in for £8.8M on Monday and that signing seemed to be well received by fans, although as we said earlier it took weeks (and weeks) for Newcastle to agree terms with Eibar.
What do you think?

Comment #2Mark – exactly paper talk.
Never spending 17 million on him.
On the note of Huddersfield they are still my idea of 20th place. With all their signings.

Comment #7Off topic but how do the FIFA fair play rules work when the likes of Chelsea can give Abrahams a 5 year contract at 50k a week then loan him out to another PL club and then sign a replacement for 30 million?

Comment #13Would love to take that greasy smile off penfolds face once and for all don’t believe anything this man say he’s been proven a lier before.and will lie again for Ashley, if we start with the players we have God help us, and believe me Tottenham could put us to the sword in our first game back in premiership after we beat them 5 . 1 in the last premiership game before being relegated.

Comment #24Arsenal now have Sanchez, Lacazette, Giroud, Welbeck, Lucas Perez, Joel Campbell and Alex Iwobi as senior strikers. Shows how far behind the top clubs we actually are really. Wouldnt be surprised if someone goes in for Welbeck and gets him relatively cheap. I’d take him at the Toon anyday if he could stay fit

Welbeck is a 100 percenter
He’s 26 – the same age as Shearer when he joined the Toon
Wth the right coaching and set up who knows what he could do ?

Wonder where mahrez will end up if sanchez doesn’t leave arsenal.
Won’t be nufc obviously.
Jazzy – it very much depends on signings but as it stands I’d say 17th. If we get a new spine including a 20 goal a season striker I’d say 12th.

Exactly, good age and loads of experience. Not sure if we’d be ambitious enough to go in for him but i’d be very happy if we did. I can imagine Arsene would certainly be tempted to sell now though.

Agree we wouldn’t accept red in the same way as the Cardiff Bluebirds were painted over but we do have Red numbers on the first team kit and a hint of it in the flag on the club crest so as a trim maybe its acceptable.
Haven’t seen the training kit but no reason why that couldn’t have been black with some white flashes and a hint of red which might have been classy ?

Comment #32If Arsenal lose Sanchez and gain Lacazette then they’re worse off so I’m not expecting anything different from them. If they keep Sanchez and sign Lacazette (done deal) then I think they could win the league!
