Newcastle Firm Up Interest In French Striker – Bid Is Now Imminent

Newcastle have been linked with Rennes striker Adama Diakhaby earlier this summer and today French daily L’Equipe are reporting the Magpies are ready to put in a bid for the 21 year-old Rennes striker.

But the bad news is that Newcastle will now face competition from French Champions Monaco.

The initial report in L’Equipe was at the end of June and was that Newcastle ‘could’ make an offer for the young Rennes striker in the ‘coming days’.

21 year-old Rennes striker Adama Diakhaby

That didn’t seem to be a very strong link at that time to Newcastle but now L’Equipe are reporting that we are close to bidding for the striker, who only turned 21 yesterday.

But the report is that talks have already taken place between Monaco and Rennes and the player now wants to join the French Champions.

Maybe Newcastle should have made their move earlier, but we seem to be having trouble signing players this summer  and that’s a big surprise to us.

In 29 games last season the young striker scored 5 goals  for Rennes and Benitez is now interested in recruiting the 2 times capped French U21 International.

Last season was the first time the youngster played in the Rennes first team.

Adama was born on the Island of Ajaccio in France and he is of Senegalese descent and can therefore play for either France or Senegal at the senior International level.

Diakhaby is left footed and is versatile and can play out on either wing or up front as an out-and-out striker.

He could be a good signing for Newcastle this summer, but it’s not good news that Monaco and now after him.

What do you think?

We do need signings. There will be signings. Personally I think this team would stay up, only the lack of morale from there being no signings would send us down. But it is a moot point to suggest this squad will go down as we won’the be kicking off in August with the same squad.

Jail – I saw your answer on the previous blog and tend to agree. A little disappointing the progress we’ve made but I imagine it’s very difficult with the stupid money there seems to be out there and persuading players to come to a newly promoted club in the North East. Like you I still trust Rafa and he certainly won his power struggle with Carr!

I believe current squad could scrape through with Rafa in charge and no distractions in dressing room or from above or from the stands.

But we don’t want that and nor more importantly does Rafa and we have time if not the money, at least not as much as we all would lik

Patience is still order of the day and no there aren’t any icebergs in front of us as yet and this ship has maneouvrability to rely on for the first time in years so no need to fret unless the Captain does

I’m impressed with Arsenal managing to get Lacazette, class player IMO

And I’m surprised with how much Everton are getting done, can’t say I wouldn’t like that here, but just gonna wait it out.

Has there been any update with out link to Boudebouz? Or was it just more paper talk

Cant really see us sfending that much on players, and certainly not breaking our transfer record. We are only linked with loan deals or bargain basement .

Shelvey colback and haydens still rockin in the in the middle..we need to replace 2 of the 3.. Issue with shelvey is he slows the game down so much all he has to offer is the one or two hollywood balls in the 90 mins.. And doesnt offer any help defensively… Colback i really dont need to explain myself on.. Haydens im still unsure on… We need a good spine.. What ya thoughts..

Shelvey wont be dropped. He’s a top player when his mind is fully on the game and not many players can play a hollywood ball like he can. His anger can be abit of an issue at times though. Colback should definately be sold though imo. We need a real battle axe of a central/defensive midfielder, kind of like an Alex Song or Nigel DeJong in their prime type player. Someone to break up the play effectively. Not sure who we could go for though
