It Looks The End Of The Road For This Much Improved Newcastle Player

It seems that Rafa has made up his mind about the goalkeepers at Newcastle and while Karl Darlow started the season last year down the pecking order he is likely to start this preseason in a similar place – but Rafa Benitez  seems ready to sell him.

In fact the Chronicle are reporting today that Rafa has already told the 26 year-old  he can leave the club this summer after signing on for us with team-mate Jamaal Lascelles from Nottingham Forest three years ago for a join £7M.

It’s a strange world this work of football when you have probably your best season between the sticks for a top club and you are surplus to requirements  in the following preseason.

The Sun is reporting that Newcastle have already rejected a £5M bid for Karl and they value him higher than that.

The news is that Middlesbrough are desperately searching for a goalkeeper after they surprisingly let both Spaniard Victor Valdes and American Brad Guzan leave the club this summer –

The news is that manager Garry Monk will return with an improved bid and if it’s a lot closer to £10M Newcastle could well accept the bid.

It may be there is a bidding war between Middleburgh and Reading which would be good for Newcastle.

But Rafa will need to bring in a number one goalkeeper soon although we think he could start with Rob Elliot as his number one choice and Rafa rates him highly and we have every faith in Elliot at Newcastle.

It’s still a bit of a mystery about what Rafa thinks of the returning Tim Krul but if Tim starts to show his best form in preseason then Rafa may have to rethink about the 29 year-old Dutch International long-serving goalkeeper.

We have so far failed with efforts to sign free agent Argentine goalkeeper Willy Caballero on a  free transfer who went to Chelsea and we suppose there’s still a chance – a slight chance – we can get Pepe Reina from Napoli and Pepe seems to be the manager’s first choice.

What do you think?
