According to various reports – one in the Mail just a few days back – that Newcastle United are one of the Premier League club’s who are interested in signing 26 year-old Hull City central midfielder Sam Clucas.
Hull City were able to stay in the Premier League for only one season this time up, and they were relegated in May, but Clucas was easily one of the Tigers’ best players and he looked good in England’s top division.
But there seems to be some confusion whether he is a real target this summer for Newcastle with the Chronicle saying he is not thought to be a top target of manager Benitez.
They also report that England goalkeeper Joe Hart is no longer a target.

Clucas was also Hull City’s Player of the Season.
We will face competition from at least Leicester City, West Brom and Burnley. but it seems to us if we can get this lad in for £10M or less he would be a very good buy for Newcastle.
Sam is said to be keen to stay playing in the Premier League and you would think an offer to join Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez on Tyneside would be an enticing one for the 26 year-old, who also seems to have good leadership skills.
Sam started his career as a youth player at Leicester City way back in 2001 when he was just 10 years old and he stayed there for six years, before he was released.
He then joined Hereford, Mansfield and Chesterfield where he played in the lower leagues, until he was eventually signed two years ago by Hull City for just £1.3M from Chesterfield.
At Hull City he’s looked a very good player and played 93 times with 9 goals and 9 assists for them.
We think he would be a good buy for the Magpies at just £8M, since he’s shown he can play well for a poor side in the Premier League.
What do you think?
