There’s Confusion On Whether Rafa Is Bidding Up To £10M For This Accomplished Central Midfielder

According to various reports – one in the Mail just a few days back – that Newcastle United are one of the Premier League club’s who are interested in signing 26 year-old Hull City central midfielder Sam Clucas.

Hull City were able to stay in the Premier League for only one season this time up,  and they were relegated in May, but Clucas was easily one of the Tigers’ best players and he looked good in England’s top division.

But there seems to be some confusion whether he is a real target this summer for Newcastle with the Chronicle saying he is not thought to be a top target of manager Benitez.

They also report that England goalkeeper Joe Hart is no longer a target.

26 year-old Hull City central midfielder Sam Clucas

Clucas was also Hull City’s Player of the Season.

We will face competition from at least Leicester City, West Brom and Burnley. but it seems to us if we can get this lad in for £10M or less he would be a very good buy for Newcastle.

Sam is said to be keen to stay playing in the Premier League and you would think an offer to join Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez on Tyneside would be an enticing one for the 26 year-old, who also seems to have good leadership skills.

Sam started his career as a youth player at Leicester City way back in 2001 when he was just 10 years old and he stayed there for six years, before he was released.

He then joined Hereford, Mansfield and Chesterfield where he played in the lower leagues, until he was eventually signed two years ago by Hull City for just £1.3M from Chesterfield.

At Hull City he’s looked a very good player and played 93 times with 9 goals and 9 assists for them.

We think he would be a good buy for the Magpies at just £8M, since he’s shown he can play well for a poor side in the Premier League.

What do you think?

I hope this is BS…! Just read we’re supposedley in pole to sign Joe Hart for around £20m!! Perhaps we do have money and Rafa is only using it on who he sees as the right personel?!!

Clucas interest – is that a straight swap for Colback ? If so why £10m for Clucas when we won’t recoup that on Colback of he’s deemed surplus.

Looks like any Joe Hart interest is a non starter, thank goodness.

Joe Hart won’t be joining Newcastle United on loan.
According to a report in The Sun Manchester City won’t contemplate another season on loan with an £18m price tag on the goalkeeper. Hart spent last season on loan at Torino but that deal involved City paying more than half of his £120,000/week wages. Newcastle are in the market for a new goalkeeper but it’s not known if their finances could stretch to the £18m fee plus Hart’s terms which would include a hefty signing on fee.

For crying out loud, we don’t need an expensive keeper bringing in! It’s the last position on the pitch we needed to strengthen at the start of this window! FFS!

Is there something written in the club’s policy that we have to have ginger in midfield? 🙂

ToonRich – don’t think I trust any news source these days. Viz is quite good mind and The Shields Gazette is often good for NUFC updates. Suppose I’ll just have to rely on Ed to give us the truth. Still I can’t think Hart is Rafa’s target. I suspect Reina is the man he wanted.

Never going to be able to swap Colback for Clucas. Clucas is alot better than Colback imo, only similarity really is the ginger fuzz, other than that he’d be a decent signing but I doubt Rafa is after him.

It took a few years but I have conditioned myself to ignore the press and all its speculations, Only Rafa, and the board will know who our targets are, all we can do is wait for the picture of the player holding the shirt.

I did have a laugh at the report that tells us Rafa is giving a last chance to four players during the preseason, especially as one of those players is Riviere.

Also sometimes bargain basement signings come good. Look at Riyad Mharez at £350k, Kante at £5m, Vardy £1m all from little clubs. Went on to win their club a nice title

They’ll be bringing In a barn door at Benton for shooting practice for Riviere and Mitro .

For those sying we dont need a GK…what would your reaction be if Darlow goes for £5m, Krul maybe £2.5-3m, Sels £3m…And Hart in for £18m?

I’d still prefer Pepe I think, if we really do change keeper!

Why are people averse to bargain basement signings? (10m is bargain basement in my opinion though)
Would you rather we spend 20m+ on a player with foreign pedigree but turns out to be a dud?
If we are to take risks on players from other leagues I’d rather they be at the cheaper end of the scale and spend the bigger fees on proven quality from the premier league.
Of course none of this refers to clucas who realistically is the best of both worlds. Reasonably priced and has shown he’s a half decent player in this league.
Is he a world beating marquee signing? No, of course not but we need a squad for this league. Not a few big stars for massive money.

ToonRich…I don’t really see the point in that one if it’s true we are cash strapped…Krul has PL experience and it seems Rafa wants that.

At Liverpool he kept buying LBs each season. Rafa has some deficiencies just like everyone else

The point is I don’t see how we have in the region of 20mil to blow on a keeper, and we are gonna let two of our own go for less than they are worth, one of whom is developing and is a canny prospect. If we’ve got 20 mil to spend, and surely we must have, it should be prioritised that we sign a decent winger or central midfielder surely? We have 2 and a half decent keepers on our books.
    Work calls..
    Later lads..

Colback must definitely be going, UEFA rules state that only Scottish clubs are allowed two gingers. Man U got away with it because Nicky But went bald.

As far as the keeper situation goes, it’s a shame we don’t have a young, highly regarded, world cup winning keeper on our books. If we did, I’d be tempted to give him a go and see how he does.

    Jesper

Are all of our signings bargain basement though? Nothing wrong with the odd bargain, after all its our first season back and we wont be buying very expensive players. Just saying the 3 players I mentioned are now worth £30m+ each and were bargain basement signings for Leicester to help them stay up and they did much more than that. I do think we need to splash on some bigger names aswell though for sure mate

I’m just saying, what if we do have the money though…and I dont mean only £20m to spend. Perhaps there is investment on the way which nobody knows about! Obviously I’m only speculating, but we’ve no hard evidence to say Rafa doesnt have the funds if he wishes to use them!!

Wasnt Krul about the same age as Woodman when he was thrown in the deep end for us?!

Apart from a couple, all their signings are decidedly underwhelming.

I think they will struggle along with the likes of Burnley Brighton WBA Bournemoth and Palace
