Newcastle Expect Third Signing Of The Summer This Week – Is It This Player?

The status of things at the moment at Newcastle is that we will have the 1892 Confederations Cup tomorrow at Benton and that will be good to watch the Newcastle schoolchildren with both Rafa and some of the first team players involved.

It was a terrific success last season.

The friendly game against Hearts is at Tynecastle on Friday night and then it’s the following week where the first team squad will have a training camp in Dublin like we did last summer – it’s not this coming week as we had mentioned a few times last week.

28 year-old Benfica playmaker Andreas Samaris

We had mentioned yesterday that Newcastle were after a number of players and we mentioned these five specifically:

  1. Adama Traore
  2. Andreas Samaris
  3. Andros Townsend
  4. Jota
  5. Bas Dost

But in fact Newcastle are in for more than just those five players and news today that we are trying to sign free agent Spanish International winger Jesus Navas from Manchester City.

James McCarthy of Everton is also back in the mix, but he would cost around £20M, so Rafa will have to decide which players he spends the big money on this summer, but we’d love it if James is a Newcastle player before September rolls around.

One of the new names mentioned today is Willian Jose of Real Sociedad, who is a 25 year-old Brazilian striker and been linked with Barcelona during this transfer window, but Jose would cost Newcastle at least £20M if we were to go after him.

We are also interested in 19 year-old playmaker Carles Alena of Barcelona. who is coming through the ranks at the Spanish powerhouse, but has so far played only 4 times for the Barcelona first team.

Newcastle are reported to be monitoring some playmaker in the Spanish League with the view to a signing and it looks like Carlos could be that player, but it would only be a season long loan with probably no option to buy next year.

If we were to hazard a guess as to which player we will sign this week it would be central midfielder Andreas Samaris from Benfica.

If Newcastle agreed to pay out the full £17.4M (€20M) wanted by Benfica he’s our player and a player Rafa is said to definitely want to sign for the Newcastle squad this summer.

What do you think?

You sort of get the idea we went into this transfer window unprepared which is a bit hard to swallow actually!

We might not be able to sign players from foreign league before July 1st (June 9th from other PL teams) but we could easily have done all the work beforehand. I don’t buy we got caught off gaurd by the transfer fees. If that’s the case then they are simply not equipped to do what they are doing.

So far Rafa has disappointed me but I guess he has plenty of time to come good. Lets see what happens in the coming weeks. We might be pressed for time.

I can not imagine that monthly installments from the PL will have that much effect on how much we spend on transfers, as it can only be £6-10M. From memory we earned £70m last season from all sources in the Championship, plus we had an excess of £30m from last summers transfers.

If we deduct the club running costs and players wages for 2016/17 season we should have the available transfer fund. Without looking it up, I guess £30m for deductions, so we have around £80m to spend on new players. Which is pretty much old news.

@Jesper – I don’t think it’s unprepared per say. I think we are being shocked at the asking price of many of these players. Both Rafa and the board have been stung by the inflation due to the Premier League’s riches. Where you could be right is that we hadn’t called clubs before the window opened to see what kind of prices were being quoted. BUT, those prices may have gone up with the likes of Everton spending big early in the window. Selling clubs see that and think “everyone in that league is cash rich, let’s make the most of it”.

I still think one of the reason we’re slow in the market is that we have so many players on long contracts we need to get off our book before we add players. The likes of Riviere and Saivet clearly don’t have a future at the club but it seems no one else thinks they’re worth their wage.

I get your frustration but I imagine any selling club would have thanked NUFC for their interest but wanted to wait until the transfer window was opened to gauge the wider level of interest.

I can see us paying Rivieres wages and him being sent to Hearts or Gateshead, just so he doesn’t stink up the training pitches.

You’re not far off over the first tranche of TV money. We’ve five televised games announced so far so at say £1.2m per game, that’ll be £6m – enough for a couple of beers!

Newcastle are considering making a move for Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose and Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla this summer, according to the Chronicle.

Transfer gossip is like watching a loved one riding on the Waltzers, the links are cyclically repeated and the facial expression can be joyous, mundane or sickly.

I’d be quite annoyed if Ashley is made to cough up the £15mill. he is alleged to have bet some guy in a pub, while his football club appears hard pressed to scrape together enough to get some previously unheard of Spanish player ‘over the line’.
Who, apart from some d/ck head makes a bet, even in banter, for £15mill.anyway ?
    Fifteen bob perhaps.

    Mark Douglas:-

“Newcastle United are hoping to bring in another new signing before they kick off their pre-season programme against Hearts on Friday.

“A fraught window so far has seen tensions rise on Tyneside but Rafa Benitez will be back in the public eye on Monday at the 1892 Foundation Cup. He’s not set to give a bulletin on transfer business but with a trip to Tynecastle on Friday he’s hopeful of adding at least one player to his squad.”

    Let’s hope he’s right.

GK – Not sure who we should sign but not really convince if we go for Hart..

RB/LB – Gael Clichy so we can use our limited cash on other areas..if we have extra cash maybe Miguel Layun since he can play on both sides or any young prospect to succeed Dummett..

CB – Glad we sign Lajeunne..with Hanley likely to be sell and uncertainty of Mbemba future i think its wise to sign another CB..best to sign a young one..Simunovic that we’ve been linked heavily or Jorge Mere looks like a good choice..

Midfield – I’d love to see us sign Samaris..looks like a good player to control our central and a good example for Hayden..then i would suggest us go for Boudebouz to add creativity..he is easily Montpellier best player and so far it seems to me Algerian player can adapt to PL quite well..im referring to Mahrez and Slimani so perhaps it would be no problem for Boudebouz to do so too..

Winger – Again if we need to spend on better choices in other areas i suggest we go for Jesus Navas to be a backup to Ritchie..and a new LM/LW to fight with Atsu for the spot..Grosicki is good enough for me..he is much better than Atsu imo..

ST – Tbh i want to see Bas Dost to lead our attack..he has prove himself in Bundesliga and 30+ goals last year for Sporting showed he know where the goal is..but it is unlikely we sign him since his club want around 50M..perhaps not this year..other choice that i would recommend is William Jose of Sociedad but if Rafa want a proven PL forward maybe Gray of Burnley or Bournemouth’s Josh King..

So in total 8 new players for me..9 if we really need a new GK..hope we can get those much needed good signing a.s a.p so they have much time to settle in..by then im looking forward to our opening game against Spurs..

He is nearly nearly 30 so why he want to use us as a stepping stone?although i dont know why he opted to play for Sporting..it would make sense if he stay at Wolfsburg rather than moving on there..

it would not surprise me one bit if ashley is up to his old tricks again and we end up with no other signing and it also wouldn’t surprise me to find out that is he cause of all the rumours about the players that are going to be signed.after all it eases the pressure on him as most fans are wondering which players are going to be signed and then comes out with the old story that they just couldn’t get them over the line. I hope i’m wrong, I really do but do leopards really change their spots.

Just wish we’d get a move on with these signings. The longer they’re here in pre-season the better chance they have of starting more comfortably.
