Newcastle Priced Out Of Permanent Deal For Top Transfer Target – But Is A Loan Possible?

Rafa Benitez wanted to bring in 26 year-old Everton midfielder James McCarthy in January but the money was not available from Mike Ashley at that time and Rafa was not at all happy about that.

But it’s now looking like James could be yet another player priced out of a deal to move to Newcastle with news today that Everton have put a £25M transfer fee on the 41 times capped Republic Of Ireland international.

The Mail are reporting that Leicester City have made an enquiry about James McCarthy, who seems to have no future at Everton under Dutch manager Ronald Koeman – and were told the price tag would be £25M.

🙁

26 year-old James McCarthy – can we do loan deal?

It seems that James just not get along with manager Koeman at all and we wonder if Rafa could arrange a loan deal for James with an option to by next year.

That would help the cash crunch Newcastle seem to be under this summer and would allow us to get a really good player in for a season at fairly low cost.

After just coming up from the Championship we are at a disadvantage this summer but all will be well in one year’s time as we hope to finish at least in mid-table and get at least around 125M form the Premier League next May.

It would be a loan with an option or even obligation to buy and the Glaswegian is a very experienced player who we think would do very well on Tyneside.

We don’t much like getting players in from other clubs where we have them for just one year and send them back with no chance to buy – although we understand for next season we may have to do one or two of those deals in the short-term.

With Morgan Schneiderlin being signed from Manchester United in January for £20M (rising to £24M with add-ons) put the writing on the wall for the Irishman and he will be keen to find a new club this summer.

Crystal Palace and West Brom have been turned off by the £25M price tag – but maybe Newcastle can get a loan deal done even though we suspect Everton would like a permanent deal done this summer.

What do you think?

    Salmon,
He used to be pessimistic? Did I miss something. This is the first time we’ve had the chance to be optimistic since Ashley got here, constantly predicting us to fail is not insightful posting in my opinion.

And of course Rafa reports to Ashley but for the first time since Ashley got here we have a manager that we need more than he needs us.

It strikes me that Rafa is very quiet at the moment. He’s back on the shop floor now, so just wondering why there is little coming from him just now. There are no pre match briefings / press conferences of course, but I seem to remember there were a canny few interviews flying about this time last year.. I think someone touched on it the other day, saying he could dispel some of the rumours / speculation easily?

Though jail and Ashley have a lot in common. jail was born in the same year as Mike Ashley, 1964. Ashley left his Grammar school with one O level and jail didn’t . Get an O level or go to a Grammar school that is. Ashley it’s claimed vomits after 12 pints and jail beats that managing it after just 3.
Ashley is a colourful and lively character and jail……… well they were both born in 1964!!

Ha ha, since when did me and Jib become sidekicks :D, I’m hardly trolling posts am I, you spent the majority of last season saying how poor we were and would be lucky to make the play offs, this was of course after our impending relegation to league one looked less and less likely. It really is that simple, if you don’t like people commenting on your posts then post on .Co. uk the chances of anyone commenting on anyone’s posts over there are extremely rare.

There will be plenty of business done at the end of the window when the market has settled down and the crazy prices become more realistic. Not ideal for pre season bonding but I think that’s when we’re most likely to do our trading.

    Your’e spot on there
When moneybags Koeman finds he’s got the likes of James McCarthy , still on the club books , earning over £2.5 million p.a., and he’s about 6 players over the 25 man squad limit.
Reality will hit him between the eyes.

Ha! Got the TV back. Been watching on my phone for a few hours. Consigned the wrench to the kitchen. (glad she doesn’t read this). Oh! Another one bites the dust. Bit unlucky but who gives one. Get a move on and we could claim the extra half hour to finish them off. Can’t see their bowlers doing much batting on this beast of a wicket.

Break this partnership and it’s game over.
Are Everton serious with that 25m? (another gone). Rather get Samaris, he’s cheaper and better. In fact, there’s a host of midfielders cheaper and better. Let them keep him I say.

    Swallocks,
I’m not sure if this bubble is going to burst, the more money that’s doing the rounds just further inflates prices, very good time to be a footballer. Must make some of the all time greats pre ’92 sick to the stomach.

McCarthy for 25M? I scoff loudly in Koeman’s face. This is ridiculous. Possibly a 10-12M pound player. I am getting concerned now. Surely we can afford a few players in the 6, 8 or 10M pound range this summer? Tell me we can Rafa.

Does this concern anyone else? They’ve brought in 9 players already to our 2 (or 4 if you can’t some young’uns). What exactly is wor plan?

McCarthy is an over priced Colback.

    Like to see..

    Strikers…
    Iheanacho (25m) – Batshuayi (loan) – Chicaritto (12m)
would have liked Mounie but he went to Huddersfield!!

    Wingers….
Campbell from arsenal – hard worker, speed and skill, also play up front (3m or free)
Choupo-Moting – hard workings good dribbler, also plays up front (i believe he is now a free agent?)
Nkoudou – from spurs, only seen him a few times last year but looked to have something. playing for marseille he looked good. fast and skillful. (loan)
Navas – He’s still fast and skillful, also remember Man City played him in the wingback position last year. free

    Midfield..
Fernando – decent buy at 5m.
Gregory Sertic – plays DM or CB. Good leader, great tackler and passer, was going to the U.S but i see Marseille have had a bid accepted for only 1.5m
Holtby – see we were linked to him last week, like this player a lot. Hard working, full of energy. however i feel he is similar to Saviet so why not give him a chance?
Pasavic – young Chelsea player who was at AC Milan last year on loan. a bit like Shelvey. Good passer but not the quickest, however more of a goal threat. They want rid of him and it was reported he’s available for 2.5m
Chalobah – Not going to work for him at Chelsea. plays DM or CB, prem ready now. 10m

    Defenders…
Smalling…Was Man U player of the season in 2016. A leader who on his day is one of the best defenders in the prem. 15m
Rahman – Chelsea LB. fast and attack minded. loan
Sagna – Yes Sagna from Man City! he’s getting on but still a good RB or CB. Free and at 34 he’s probably not going to get big bucks elsewhere unless he goes to china.
Aogo – plays as a left back and left wing-back or midfielder for Schalke 04. Good cover and free.
Santon – yes Davide Santon. I liked him at the toon. loves the place and would come back tomorrow. playes RB but always got stuck at LB. I actually thought he did a great job that time when he started at CM. 3m

would also like to see a change of formation to the much played 3-5-3. works well for all the top teams. but the key to making this work is you must play a hard working winger in a wingback postion. Mouting, Campbell, Navas, Rahman and Aogo could all provide this.
