Newcastle Could Get A Bargain Buy On This Experienced Winger

Newcastle United have been given the option of buying Swansea City left-winger Jefferson Montero, and that was also true in January but the club have so far resisted taking up that option.

We’ve watched Montero look world-class for Swansea at times and we’ve also watched him have the poorest of games on the left wing so the player is very inconsistent, although he’s loaded with skills.

And maybe if Newcastle took up the option of buying him for a low £4M Rafa Benitez could get the best out of him?

27 year-old Swansea winger Jefferson Montero

If we cannot get some of our other winger targets in this summer Rafa may have to bring in the 63 times capped Ecuadorian International (10 goals) who joined Swansea in the summer of 2014 from Mexican club Monarcas Morelia on a four year deal.

Montero was at Villareal from 2009 until he left in 2012 so Rafa will have been told all about the left winger – about how he trains and about his character and temperament.

Montero has one year left on his contract at the Swans and he’s played 72 times with 2 goals and 11 assists for Swansea, and while he was at Villarreal he played only 20 games with 2 goals and 3 assists for the first team.

Montero certainly has skill and pace but it’s his consistency that worries us.

In his career he’s played 205 first team games with 19 goals and 29 assists.

What do you think?

Sitting on the fence I need this one, I can’t see us getting any one else in tbh, but then again SDJ will be like a new signing.

Bayern Munich can make the signing of James Rodriguez permanent for €35.2m.

Swansea are demanding £50m for Sigurdsson.

    Crazy.

Good old Talksport are doing a great hatchet job on us usual ha ha ha! Seems Rafa has no experience in shopping for cheaper players as he’s used to just getting who he wants. Mmm, I seem to recall exactly the same argument being thrown at him re the Championship. Just as well we didn’t have him in the Championship or we’d never have got promoted… Oh, wait a minute.

Bayern Munich are letting sanches and gnabry out on loan this season. If we were to loan any players this window then it should be these two. Forget not being able to buy them at the end of the loan, both quality additions and transform our attack even if it’s a stop gap. We can then focus on top quality striker etc.

Hope we pursue Jacob Murphy, really good player who will improve the first team and continue to get better. These are the types of signings we should be making as a club. Missed out on the likes of Redmond, Gray etc.

Murphy came up the youth playing off the left, played a lot of first team on the right and has played well on both flanks. Two footed, pacy and against us he was a pain in the backside. Game changed when we brought on mitro and played two upfront but what people forget is they took of Murphy and lost a big threat, just as big a factor imo. At Coventry linked up really well with Armstrong two, a few of his goals were assisted by Murphy.

Looks like Rafa is going back in with a higher bid for Murphy Rolando. You can see why we went in low with money being tighter than expected, but I reckon ten to twelve million will twist their arm. Second parachute payment ain’t so great is it?

Yeah when he played for arsenal he didn’t do bad at all, I always wondered why Wenger never gave him more of an opportunity. He’s been quality in Germany, quality young player.

If they’re interested in our Murphy I don’t see why not just throw him in the deal?

Crazy, I don’t think somehow, Sigurdsson have been outstanding, he’s miles better than James Rodriguez.

Not to worry, Newcastle don’t have to sign anyone we have got a strong squad and strength in depth, no need to panic, with rivière up front we will finish in the top half.

    In rivière we trust.

Got to disagree re siggy and rodriguez. Swans are not exactly at the same level as RM. It’s easier for a player as good as siggy (and he is really good) to stand out in a mid table prem side than it is for another really good player like rodriguez to stand out at RM with limited game time. 50M quid is mental money for any player, but youd have to admit that both players should attract the same fee. Its just the insane nature of the premiership transfer market

How can you be surprised at TalkSport having a pop at us. It is one of Murdoch’s vehicles for peddling tripe and sensationalism which has always got to have a human target.

If it wanted a justifiable target, there’s always his current puppet, the Maybot and her ilk. But, no they’re useful to his nasty right-wing agenda.

I realise that your’e joking but you never know Rivi might just turn from a duckling into a Swan.

Speaking of Swans has anyone seen one swimming underwater, me and the Missus were in St Ives Cambs. recently when we spotted this huge white shape moving under the water and surfaced right beside us, amazing to see.

I’m sorry to say but Sigurdsson is a joy to watch, considering he’s a midfielder his goal tally are always in double figures not mention his stats on his assists and he’s doing it all in the toughest league in the world, world class players have come here over the years and failed, I know Rodriguez have never been here but he’s surrounded by world class players with Real Madrid, could he do that in an average team.

It’s one of those unanswerable questions, although to be fair RM moved montains to make sure they signed him, to be one of those world class players. I dont disagree about the quality of siggy, but i cant accept him being worth 50M. If he played in spain he’d be worth around the same as other highly rated mfs. Probably around the 30-35M mark, and worth every penny imo.

Put it this way, the only way Swans would get 50M for him is if one of the English big teams buys him. Otherwise he’d go cheaper leaving the country. The prem is just full of silly money.

It’s not really odd him wanting to leave imo, he left arsenal because he wanted games. Wenger should have given him more opportunities as when he did play he performed well. With Wenger though, he lets players leave in order to play and develop. He never keeps hold of them and stifle them. Think he wants to leave this year on loan in order to continue getting games. The likes of Ribery and robben are still first choice but I think this will be robbens last year so he doesn’t want to sit around. More players should take a leaf out of his book and look to play rather than sit and get paid.

I don’t know how many players we have been linked with, I don’t really care because we were never interested in any of those players.
I don’t think we will sign anyone soon, Rafa will need to see what he has right now. I think he will made decision what kind of players he needs after 3 or 4 friendly games.
he would drop players to reserve or promote to 1st team, make decision who will be sold or loaned out.
he will do this because he doesn’t have the same budget as most PL teams and he won’t just buy any players just because the fans want someone in. It will also give time for his new scouts to give him better options within the budget.
