Newcastle Linked With £28M New Striker Target

We didn’t think Islam Slimani had a very good season for Leicester City last season in the Premier League and he scored only 8 goals in 28 appearances for the Foxes.

So it’s not too surprising that Leicester City want to sell him this summer, after he signed a five year contract last summer with the transfer fee paid to Sporting Lisbon reported to be a massive £28M, which was a club record for Leicester.

In fact Bas Dost was the player Sporting then signed from Wolfsburg to replace Slimani, who in the previous season scored 31 goals in 44 games so that may add some perspective to Bas Dost’s accomplishments last season of 36 goals in 41 appearances.

29 year-old Algerian striker Islam Slimani

It’s  a lot easier to score goals in Portugal than it is in the Premier League.

We mention Slimani because we had been interested in the player a couple of years ago and there’s news from Algeria today that Newcastle are one of twoclubs said to be chasing the 49 times capped Algerian international striker (25 goals).

The Foxes are expected to be signing Kelechi Iheanacho from Man City, and West Brom are reported as the other side who are interested in the striker – who should be less than £28M this summer – but you never know with this summer’s crazy transfer window.

We would be very surprised if Rafa Benitez is really interested in the 29 year-old Algerian striker.

What do you think?

Ikeanacho was a no brainer. ticked a lot of boxes but was seemingly never under consideration even.

When theres proven players like Javier Hernandez available for £13m why would we spend £28m on this flop. Not going to happen. The club should be going all out to sign Batshuayi imo.

    Islam Slimani
    This is a difficult one
He’s scored 50 odd goals for Algeria against some pretty tough opposition
Over 3 Seasons at Sporting Lisbon 40+ goals in 80 odd games including CL games.
In Portugal he was managed by Jorge Jesus
At Leicester where he has looked poor he is managed by Craig Shakespeare who I believe is living off Claudio Ranieri’s groundwork and a poor coach.
Under a decent manager (Rafa) he would likely thrive
However the Foxes paid a reputed £28 million for him last Summer (last day of the window) I wouldn’t like NUFC risk that sort of

I’m laughing at the comments of people rubbishing Slimani. I watched him a few times for Leicester and he’s a proper centre forward and would walk into our side. Don’t judge him on his goals return last season, most of which he played as a sub or second fiddle to Vardy. He’s miles better than Mitrovic. The problem is we won’t be willing for Leicester to recoup anywhere near their investment. I’d be over the moon if we brought in in on a season loan with option to buy built in at a sensible £15M-£18M price.

Agree NYMAG can’t go off goals records at all ,, batshuayi got 10 goals in 37 games for the best team in th land and as soon as he is linked with us he is th best thing since shearer when mitro got 9 leauge goals in a relagated team ,, am not saying am a mitro botter either but everyone jumps on th wagon as soon as we are linked with anyone ,, take grey for example ..
