The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder managed to get an interview in with Rafa Benitez yesterday at the Benton Training grounds during the successful 1892 Foundation Cup – the second time we have had this competition between locl school sides who compete against each other.
Obviously Rafa cannot talk about the targets Newcastle are after but that didn’t stop a young boy waiting for a selfie with the manager from asking Rafa which players he was going to sign.
Good for him.
🙂
A smiling relaxed Rafa Benitez at the 1892 Foundation Cup yesterday
Rafa seemed confident and determined as he had this to say to the Chronicle:
“One of the children asked for a picture and then asked me: ‘Which player will you sign in the future?’
“We couldn’t answer the question so I just said concentrate on the football!”
“We know where we are.” “Everybody wants to see a lot of players signed up already, but we have to keep working.”
“We can do nothing else.” “We have to find the players we want and hopefully we can do it.”
Lee Charnley and company are working hard behind the scenes and Lee is nothing if not persistent and committed,. so we need a little patience and remember the transfer window this summer is a little crazy.
With being down below for a season we are also behind most clubs in how much money we can pay out this summer – but things should be back to normal next summer.
That;s the way things are and we have to accept it – and that;s exactly what Rafa Benitez seems to be doing – but he remains upbeat Newcastle will get the hob done this summer.
What do you think?

Comment #1Wonder if all the pessimists will stay quiet for a while now Raffa has spoken.
Let’s face it – Raffa and a few others know who our targets are. Nobody else, unless it has been categorically stated we have had bids rejected. But even then it’s hard to know if its true or not.
I’ve noticed Ed’s choice and captioning of pictures and headlines are very up and down.
Ed – are you bipolar?

Aye I’m happy he has done an interview at least. Last season he was spot on with his PR, spoke publicly often, addressing the fans, even if not giving details he reassured everyone. This summer he was very quiet, up to now, obviously the rumours then take hold little by little.
Pessimist? No….
Quite the opposite 🙂

Comment #4At least the headlines aren’t deliberately misleading like Newsnow. I’ve stopped going onto that site.
“Done deal: Newcastle agree terms of 6ft 4in striker transfer”
And then it turns out to be 21-year-old striker Tom Heardman on a season-long loan.
