Newcastle Have Opportunity To Unload One Of Their Players

One of the jobs Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley have is to offload a number of player from the first team squad who seem to have no future at Newcastle United.

It will not be easy because a number of players who were on long last season did not do particularly well.

One of those was former Monaco striker Emmanuel Riviere whose time at Newcastle ha been little short of a disaster.

27 year-old Emmanuel Riviere – a tough time at Newcastle

Emmanuel has turned out to be a poor signing for Newcastle and he cost the Magpies £6M when he joined on a four year contract three years ago from Monaco.

The good news is that Riviere only has one year left on his contract on Tyneside and it looks like French club Metz may be interested in taking the player.

The news is in L’Equipe that Metz are considering a move for the 27 year-old Frenchman who was simply not good enough for Newcastle.

After two poor seasons at Newcastle when he played only 31 games with three goals he went on loan to CA Osasuna last season where he played only 17 times and failed to score but he did have one loan assist.

Osasuna were not interested in taking the player permanently and in fact they were relegated to the Spanish second division.

It will be important for the French U21 International  to hook up with a decent club, because his career at the moment seems to be in real danger, so we hope for his sake he can move to a decent club.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

    Bobby,
Oh but the club did benefit, because thousands more would have chucked their tickets had a deal like that been put on the table. Of he cared about the fans he’d have had us competing for a cup.

Good to move Rivi on another example of how our club haggle over a odd mil and waste millions on duds.

Looking like the priority is off loading players before we take new ones. Rafa is clearly under Mashley rule.

“Rafa Benítez will be the special guest at the first of a series of supporter events at St. James’ Park’s NINE Bar during the 2017/18 season.
Rafa will appear at the first of the monthly ‘question and answer’-style evenings at 7pm on Thursday 27 July, with a number of legendary Newcastle United personalities set to follow over the course of the campaign.
The events will be hosted by forme radio broadcaster Mick Lowes.”

Strange behaviour for a manager about to walk

Jail, the agreement is none binding on the supporters side. It is binding on the club’s side. We’ve saved a canny few quid by signing up for it. Our ticket costs less now than it did years ago – how does it benefit the club more than me? You might not like it, but in this case it is the fans who benefit, not the club. How can a none binding agreement benefit the club? We, can stop going any time we choose, they can’t put the price up. In fact they put the price DOWN ten percent.
I’m not backing Ashley on this, but we, benefit, not him. If the agreement was binding you might have a point, but it isn’t. I can walk away from it any time I choose, the club can’t and haven’t tried. I pay less than you for my ST. How does that benefit the club? It’s a loyalty bonus, nothing more.

Stand back please! We’re unloading some used and unwanted Newcastle players. Okay let’s get into position here….. good. Now open up the tailgate. And away we go. Straight into the North Sea. There goes Rivi, oh and there’s Hanley. Haidara looks a bit unhappy…. and there’s Hanley. Yes there’s Yedlin. And Gouffy! A shame he wouldn’t sign that contract. Well, that’s it for now. We’ll get back to the training ground and fill up again…..

Shirebrook, I reckon Yedders will blossom in this side mate, he’s definitely a one to keep. He caused havoc down the wing overlapping and underlapping(?) Ritchie. (Made up word but I mean when he cuts inside the winger, not on the outside. 🙂 )
I think he’s here for the long haul myself and that suits me.

    Bobby,
Like I said they seen an alarming rate of people chucking season tickets and putting a ten year price freeze on them made people think twice about chucking theirs. Considering his lack of communication, complete disregard of the fans and total lack of ambition for the club, do you honestly think the freeze was a gesture of goodwill.

One thing can be said on behalf of Rivière: that was quite a spectacular somersault he turned after his one and only PL goal for us! 🙂

Love the tickets we get for friendlies, bang on the centre circle. Wouldn’t mind sitting there permanently but it’s full of dead people! 🙂 Not sure I’d enjoy the sun blinding me either, but the view is brilliant.

The lads definitely got potential. He’s got pace to burn mate and that’s what teams are all about in this day and age. Bit of work on his defensive side and crossing. Be as good as Kyle Walker, Clyne etc 😉

Goodwill or not mate, I pay less now than eight years ago and that suits me. Like I keep saying, everyone who signed up for it has always had the option of walking away. That option remains to all who signed up.
For fans like me, who are going to go regardless of where we are in the league because it’s what we’ve always done, a ten year price freeze is buzzing. I suppose it is a goodwill gesture, rewarding the loyalty of fans by keeping prices down.
If another deal comes up when this one ends I’ll sign up for that too and hope I live that long! 🙂

    Bye, Rivierre. Don’t hurry back
Yet astonishingly some on here say he was a good signing originally.
I don’t recall any delight when he signed. I remember people being concerned as his record wasn’t too good
