Transfer Breakthrough By Friday Now Looking Extremely Unlikely

Newcastle have been knocked back on the three players we were hoping to make progress with this week and it now looks unlikely there will be a transfer breakthrough before the first friendly game of the season with Hearts on Friday night in Edinburgh.

We were going after loan signings for 21 year-old Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the Chelsea central midfielder and also a loan deal for Liverpool’s 20 year-old winger Sheyi Ojo.

But it looks like Ruben will sign on at Crystal Palace on a season loan deal and that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would prefer his winger to play at Middlesbrough in the Championship for next season.

21 year-old Ruben Loftus-Cheek – Chelsea central midfielder

These are the second and third loan deals this summer we have failed to get done after looking to be the favorites in all three of them and we were even after both these players in January.

The third player we want is 22 year-old Norwich City winger Jacob Murphy and we have had a first bid of £8M turned down by the Canaries.

But Newcastle may find they have to go to £12M to get this player and as usual Newcastle are playing financial hardball on these transfers and it’s simply not working when clubs know they can get inflated prices for their players this summer.

The good news about Jacob is that he wants to come to Newcastle and play for Rafa, so we should put in a bid of £10M or more to try to get this player through the door.

It’s now 9 days since we got Frenchman Florian Lejeune to the club and that took a massive six weeks of negotiating.

And it’s almost two weeks ago that Lee Charnley told the Fans Forum members we would be signing players in the near future.

It just hasn’t happened so far, except the Lejeune deal which was painfully slow.

While we need to be patient, Newcastle must also start paying out the money to get their targets.

We’re operating like we did three or four years ago, when it was painfully slow to sign anybody.

Comments welcome.

Thankfully Reina is about to sign new contract at Napoli. Let’s not make last summer’s mistake and waste good money on a new keeper unproven in England. We have 4 Premiership standard keepers already.

I think I know what the problem is !
There’s 200 plus players all jammed in reception waiting to see Rafa and they have got fed up with waiting and gone to other clubs 😉
