Newcastle Set To Play Hardball On Transfers – But Will Likely Lose Out On This Player

There’s news in the Northern Echo today that Newcastle will hand in a £10M bid for their latest target – Jacob Murphy – and it’s essentially a take it or leave it offer.

That’s an increase of £2M on the £8M we bid earlier this week – but Norwich’ appraisal of the player seems to have gone from £12M up to £16M as the goalposts on Murphy seem to have been moved.

Norwich are probably not going to take the offer, so unless the player is urging his club he wants desperately to leave – and there’s no evidence he is – the bid will likely be turned down.

22 year-old Norwich winger Jacob Murphy

But it seems Newcastle are realizing we cannot mess around with these transfers.

We’ve now been working for around seven weeks in the transfer market – at least Lee Charnley and his team have been – and we have just one new signing from last season in 26 year-old center-back Florian Lejeune.

Of course. from Newcastle’s viewpoint the 22-year-old England U21 International is untested at the highest level and hasn’t played in the Premier League.

Newcastle have told Norwich they will not be making a third bid if this offer is turned down – so we go after other targets – but it seems we’ve already been through quite a few of our top targets already.

The good news for Norwich is that Newcastle will pay the full amount of £10M up front in cash, so that money will be available to the Canaries to bring in players this summer.

That’s a good deal for Norwich.

New Norwich manager Daniel Farke has said  that Murphy is not likely to be part of the first team squad for next season, but Norwich will still think they can get more for the player in the remaining seven weeks of the window.

Jacob is said to be keen to join Rafa at Newcastle – so at least that’s in our favor.

But if we were to hard a guess at what the Canaries will do – we’d say they’ll turn the Newcastle offer down.

But we’ve also been wrong before.

🙂

Jacob Murphy at £10M in today’s crazy transfer window would be a good deal for Newcastle.

Runaway, get a few caseloads of them tops and set up a stall next to the Strawberry! 😆
Maybe, with the profits, we can fund a new signing or better still pay for Riviere to go to Metz.

Jack, that’s about it I reckon and those two are not down to us missing them. Abraham wasn’t allowed to come up here because Chelsea don’t trust him to behave himself. We allegedly bid 20m for Cairney, which was way over the odds really for a player untested in the PL, but again, he wasn’t for sale at any price and he signed a new contract. So out of the two we know we were in for, neither were ‘missed’, they were simply not available to us.
The rest nobody knows. What we can safely say without any fear of contradiction, is that we weren’t in for the 200 the press would have us believe! 🙂

Someone give Ashley a nudge and remind him he’s worth 2.5 billion. We should be competing with Everton on transfers not Brighton ffs.
10 years of absolute crap, not leaving until he wins something, Rafa is a football manager not a magician.
    Get some players in!

At a time when most fans are optimistic about the forthcoming season we have to endure another load of excuses for failed signings and get ready for a long hard slog to get to the goal of 17th position.
While we let 7 players go – and another 5 are available if we believe the press 🙂 – we have brought in 2 – 1 from last year who for a large period of the season couldnt get a game!!!.
This penny pinching / buy low sell high has to stop if the team is to get anywhere near a top 10 finish – even FatAsh must recognise another relegation will hit him in the pocket/heart.

If we’re to offer a final offer of £10m max for Jacob, I wonder who’s defined that figure and the bids for others? If Rafa’s defining valuations, fine but if they’re being set without his blessing, we’ve got a big big problem approaching.

And, it appears that for all the talk about SD paying market rates for advertising, Ashley continues to take the pi$$.

It’s about time we payed the going rate for players but if this article is true and they said they wanted 12 million (which is what we should of offered in the first place) then they changed there mind and said actually we now want 16 million which he is not worth as he has never played at the top level then how can we blame the club

Good old Mike spends his money when and where he likes, understandable seeing as it’s his money ‘n all. Just a shame he promised to invest 20M a year to get us onside before making up threats to his family to renege on the deal.

The missed targets are happening, i’m not disputing that. What I am disputing is the reasons why. It’s not because “ooh, Mash wont spend the money” it’s actually because the selling/loaning club don’t want them to come here, or the player himself wants to be in landan where it’s safe and warm.

Sorry but yes we can blame the club, I accept that the asking prices are ridiculous, but its ridiculous for all clubs, its what you now have pay, either pay it or we go down again, was Sissoko worth £35m, Gini £25m, no they weren’t but in today’s market that is the fee they demand, now if you demand the current fees when selling you have got to be prepared to pay it when buying, safely based on Rafa’s time here it seems as if we are happy to sell at to say prices but not prepared to buy any today’s prices, and what will happen then, we will go down.

I think Justin Barnes is giving a hand as well.

The best the club ever operated in the Ashley era
was under lawyer /chairman Chris Mort
I wonder if the owner is minded to give Barnes the gig ?

Jib, I believe Barnes is there because Ashley’s selling the club, or trying to., or is alleged to etc. Only going by what Rafa said, which was it has no affect on transfers. If he has any input, then surely that is him effecting transfers? I get the impression he’s there to tidy up loose ends and make it a viable sale.

Spoof it’s only really players currently in England that are attracting those massive fee’s. Specifically players looking to transfer between English clubs.

Benitez has said in a past interview that you can look overseas but it’s more of a risk with international players and they have to be better quality to make an immediate impact. So we could start looking for cheaper targets overseas but it appears apart from the odd link in Spain we have been scouting mainly players in the UK. There will be quality that we can afford but it’s going to be hard to find.

The going rate I think will calm down in a few years. If these prices continue then clubs will just start looking elsewhere. Swansea want £50m for Sigurdsson but in France, Italy, Germany or Spain you could probably snag 2 players of nearly the same quality for that.

We definitely picked the wrong year to be relegated.

I keep telling you I accept we were “in the race”. What you seem to be missing is that, while we are missing out, the reason for it is not refusal to spend, but choices that clubs and players are making based on where they think they’d be better off. Players and managers themselves have been quoted as to why they joined x,y and z rather than us. It’s no good making up reasons to bash Mash, when there are already plenty of real ones.
