It was great to see Siem de Jong and Rolando Aarons starting again for Newcastle last night at Tynecastle in the good 2-1 win.
Siem put a great ball through to Dwight Gayle for our first goal after inly three minutes and Rolando looked good and hit the bar twice.
In short, both these players have the class we need to compete in the Premier League next season, although they are probably our two most injury prone players.
Newcastle players huddle before the game last night
But the medical department will be watching the two of them closely and these two players could be like new signings for us if we can only keep them fit.
All of our players in that first half played well and we looked a decent team and Rafa obviously has each player knowing just exactly what they have to do.
Here are some comments from the Newcastle fans about the game last night with one or two other comments put in.
It’s always nice to win.
If we keep De Jong and Arrons fit they will be like 2 new signings.#Nufc

@dwightgayle is going to be knocking them in for us this season don’t know why people think we need a striker so badly #nufc

Even if it’s only Hearts, it’s good to get a win under our belts for the first game. Still needing some signings asap! #nufc

Can you help Caleb out??
Sometimes I feel like the only #Geordie in Arkansas! Is there an #NUFC supporters group in Arkansas? Anybody?

Comment #83Ashley has to know that fans will always want signings but what is crucial is that HE MUST UNDERSTAND THIS TIME WE DESPERATELY NEED TO BOLSTER OUR SQUAD WITH QUALITY OR WE ARE CERTAINLY GOING DOWN AGAIN.

Comment #84i think Rafa has seen enough to be confident that building on the current squad is the way to go instead of making wholesale changes and knee jerk costly signings.

Comment #86Jane – I never said Rafa would spend it all, he’s smarter than that. But I have to admit I doubt he will be handed the huge amounts people think he will be given next year (hope I am wrong). I think if Murphy comes he would probably be around 40,000 per week or possibly more. Good players with lots of potential don’t come cheap and if they prove their worth they usually have clauses in their contract that includes a pay rise after so many appearances etc. He is a good up and coming player with pace which we’re crying out for and we need more of the same.

Comment #87We really need a Striker too as Mitrovic is not a natural goalscorer and can’t be relied upon as much as we do. If Gayle gets injured we will be in trouble instantly and struggle to score goals as we have no one that can slot in his place if needed.
I would love Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez here as he is a proven Premiership goalscorer and natural finisher who we can get on the cheap considering his vast experience and talent. Class player that would add so much to our current squad.
