Everything we heard about the Jacob Murphy deal yesterday seemed quite positive.
For one thing we seemed to put in a very good second offer to Norwich City which was £10M front in
cash and then £2M add-on payments later based on how well Jacob does playing for Newcastle United.
The England U21 star player returned to training at Norwich late last week after he played so well in Poland for the England U21 team who were finally between in the semi-finals of the European U21 tournament by Germany on penalties.
22 year-old Norwich winger Jacob Murphy
And he was left out of the Norwich squad yesterday for the friendly game with Cambridge United.
Jacob was a Newcastle fan as a boy and his reps made it clear to Norwich on Thursday that he wanted the move to Newcastle United and that if necessary he would hand in a transfer request to get the move completed.
That severely weakened Norwich negotiating power, but it appears the East Anglia club could be close to accepting a £10M play £2M add-ons or even the full £12M up front – if that’s necessary.
With Rafa wanting this deal done asap and in constant contact with Lee Charnley, we had better not delay the deal further by arguing over a million here or a million there – given we have added only one new player to the squad from last season.
We don’t know why this deal couldn’t be wrapped up soon and then Jacob could join the squad, who will be in Dublin for their week-long training camp next week.
We saw some of the players who didn’t play much last season like Siem de Jong, Rolando Aarons play great on Friday night at Tynecastle – and they could be like two new signings if we can only keep them fit.
And Sadio Haidara, Achraf Lazaar and Jesus Gamez looked good in the second half and Rafa may even keep some of the players from last year who may even be better suited to the Premier League.
But Lee Charley and company need to get Jacob Murphy to the club as soon as possible.
No excuses now – pay out the money please.

Comment #2This would be a very good little signing.
We’ve been crying out for another winger.
Young and English.
Value is likely to only go up.
Newcastle fan as a boy.

Comment #8He is the same as Tom Ince, Not bad at championship level but not got enough to step up to the big league. I’d take Traore all day long bags more potential.

That would be the same Traore who scored 0 and assisted 0 for Middlesbrough last season?

Thats the one. Look at his clips how many chances did he create and the Boro players miss? plus he’s younger and played in the Prem all be it with 2 shite teams. No one wanted Ince but we are signing a player exactly the same.

Comment #13Traore would be an awful singing, stay well clear of that one.
Sounds like Murphy will happen. Even with De Jong possibly back in the mix we need another no.10, a back up to Shelvey, a left back and a striker.
Shame Robertson is off to Liverpool, would have been perfect for us. With Everton spending like crazy, Garbutt might be a decent left back option.

Garbutt would be a great shout but with the money Everton are throwing about I’d predict any leavers from goodison might come at a premium with the precedent they’ve set in spending this summer. Holgate another one too.

Comment #15I’ve seen a lot of Ince and Jacob Murphy, they are similar but Murphy is a better all round player, Ince is very greedy and opt to shoot over playing a pass.
At 12mill it’s a good signing.
Will say Josh Murphy is good too and he was ahead of Jacob until last season, Jacob is improving very fast which is another reason he’s better value than Ince. Ince I can’t see improving that much more.

Comment #16And whilst Everton has been mentioned I believe ramirez will be the signing of the summer for only 5.1m, we should have chased that one down, in fact I’m quite angry we didn’t chase that one down!

Don’t do that and give me hope I know it won’t happen as Boro want too much. Are they not in for the West Ham keeper?
